Gentle iron tablets

I have been advised by the doctor to take iron tablets due to a low Ferretin level (13).

I’ve been taking ferrous sulphate tablets on and off for a few months but am struggling with the side effects (stomach pains, bloating, etc.) I tend to take them for a couple of weeks but stop when the side effects get too bad.

I’m going to try the more gentle iron tablets but before buying them I wondered if anyone could tell me whether they have found any particular types/brands to be as effective as the ferrous sulphate?

I desperately need something that works as I feel awful. However, I don’t want to waste time trying different supplements if they are not going to work as well.

Thanks in advance for any advice!

Spatone liquid iron. You can get it in all chemists/supermarkets or cheaper in bulk from Amazon. Ups the iron intake with no side effects. I've been taking it for years with no issue

Spatone does nothing for my levels, unfortunately.

My doctor advised me to take Ferrous Fumarate at a rate of 2 tablets a day. This comes with the inevitable side effects ... !

Research seems to suggest that it is actually more beneficial to take a few doses a week, so I now take 1 tablet 3 times a week, and that seems to keep my levels up.

i use ferroglobin fizz tablets from vitabiotics. You dissolve them in water.

I’ve also heard that you’re better off taking iron every other day.

Nature's Bounty Gentle Iron... www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B076BRK6C5?ref=ppx_pop_mob_ap_share

this is great

Thanks everyone. I tried Spatone once but I don’t think I could drink it again - it’s the most disgusting thing I’ve ever tasted!
i’ve been taking two tablets a day but will cut it down and see if that helps with the side effects (and is effective enough to get my levels up)

Better if you just shot it mixed in to some orange juice

Go back to your doctor, explain everything over counter doesn’t agree with you.

Ask for Ferracru. They are iron tablets that do not upset your tummy or bowel in anyway. My IBD nurse at hospital suggested them.

The best one I have found that actually works for me is the Better You Iron 10 Daily Oral Spray. 4 sprays per day. Highly bioavailable and it doesn't affect my stomach at all

Similar ferritin level here. I’ve been taking Ferrograd which is a slow release tablet. Take it at bedtime and no side effects so far. All the prescription iron meds made me horribly unwell.

Thanks - some really good suggestions here! Hopefully something will work for me.
