Bladder not fully emptying

i'm 53 - perimenopuasal, on HRT quite a high dose have a mirena coil
I constantly need a wee and regardless of whether i have had any liquid at all i can always squeeze a wee out
I never get UTI which is good but its embarrasing that at my age i have to wear pads daily in case of leakage (which does happen on occasion) and that i have to stop in the middle of the street or shop and squat dwon or bend down to let my bladder settle so i don't wee myself
I went for a scan today and had to drink 2 pint of water before - the pain trying to hold that in was excrutiating i really felt unwell, could hardly move and all i could feel was burning and a feeling like everything was going to open up down below (TMI)
My pelvic floor on examination previously is good, no prolapse HRT increased 18 months ago in case this helped i hasn't and nothing on bloods
Radiographer said today that the 2 pints of water had my bladder full to the brim and then when she scanned after going to the loo it was still very full even though to me it had been emptied, she asked me to try again and i had another wee but she said on that scan it was still not empty. She checked kidneys no apparent blockage and the appearance of bladder ok.
It s a problem with emptying, since i got back iv'e been going all afternoon with that pain and urgency but very frequently
will go tot DRs for results in a couple fo weeks but what can be done about this kind of thing - any ideas
I really don't want to be looking for a loo everywhere i go
I am of good general health, healthy weight and eat well, don't drink coffee, very little tea and a little wine but not in the day !!

No answer but I'm similar, was thinking of seeing the dr

@gogohmm ill keep
you posted- it’s really getting me down. I look ridiculous stopping in the street pretending to stretch my leg or tie my shoe when in fact I’m waiting for the burning desire to wee to pass so I can carry on

I had all sorts of bladder woes re leaking and always needing to go until I started vaginal oestrogen pessaries. I had vaginal atrophy. It also made me very itchy too, now all gone thankfully.

A tip I was given by my gp before when I couldn’t empty my bladder was to bend down and touch my toes while on the toilet and gravity helps things along. She also said to try not to rush while on the toilet and take time cos if you’re in a rush your muscles are tense and you don’t empty properly.

Was going to say similar. It was one of the things I had problems with when pregnant and the MW said to lean forwards as much as I could (easier said than done with a watermelon sized bump) when the flow stopped. It did help, not saying it will be a perfect fix but it's something easy you can try.

I had a five year phase of similar. Nettle tea can be good for emptying. I use a Pukka one called Radiance but any health food shop sells it. I'm not sure if it was a side effect of an antidepressant I was taking. It stopped when I stopped taking them. The other thing that helped was low carb diet. So gin or vodka with slimline instead of wine. Nut bread instead of wheat. I think I had a lot of inflammation which improved with low carbing, allowing the muscles to work better again. That's what worked for me

Ask your GP about vagifem pessaries.
They might help.

Mondayagainohno · 31/01/2023 05:02

thanks everyone too tips
@Felicity42 i was prescribed vagi fem a few years ago pre HRT didn’t notice much of a difference but tbh I was a bit hot and miss with taking them I had forgotten about them
I should try again did you use them daily ?
@Mum97540 i drink lots of pukka teas as avoiding caffeine in regular tea was wondering if this was making it worse ? I generally drink the fennel based ones I’ll try dandelion ! In terms of diet I’m avoiding cows milk because of digestive issues do maybe I do go to heavy on the carbs as pretty much plant based now plus fish ! Haven’t eaten meat for 30 years which makes not eating carbs tricky as beans bloat me out ax a protein and bean told to avoid soy protein too as similar make up to cows milk - a vicious circle and i really don’t want lose weight as I’m only 9st and 5f8” so dropping too many carbs might be tricky
@Drbrowns will try the rocking I am always in a rush !

I was told to practise “double voiding” or even triple if you need to. Have your wee, stand up, turn around , sit down and go again. Repeat till bladder empty. It helps to retrain it to get it used to being fully contracted and empty.
