Tips on getting a 9mo to take medicine?

My 9mo dd has a stinking cold at the moment and is point blank refusing to take any Medised or Calpol.

She used to take it perfectly happily but has now decided not to!

I've tried spoon, syringe, squirting into her cheek, the back of her mouth etc etc but she just spits it out.

Any ideas?

we tie a muslin round her neck and use a syringe, v small amounts at a time

ds was the same but started liking it again aged, about, 2.5

it's a phase, this too will pass...

hope she's better soon.

have you tried one of those dummy medicine things

of course it mieansyour chidl needs to be sued to a dummy for it to have a chance of working

oh I feel your pain .. DD was exactly like this .. the best professional advice was to put syringe down beteen her teeth and cheek and squirt to the back

didn't work for us but worth a try

Shall I start going on about suppositories again?

Pinkjenny · 06/02/2008 20:44

DD loves her dummy and have found one of these contraptions tonight, Eazimed or something, am going to call tomorrow and see if I can get one.

Not sure it'll work as its the taste she doesn't like, but at this point its worth a try. Dh's advice is to 'pin her down'. Not sure how this solves the spitting out problem...

With Medised I used to add a spoonful to her milk before bed - tasted foul to me but DD didn't seem to mind. I think it says on the bottle that you can add it to water, milk or juice. Both Medised and the baby paracetamol stuff seem to have a bit of a horrible taste but I'm delighted to discover that Nurofen is welcomed with an open mouth and lapped up as and when required!
