Spiriva respimat - how long for it to work?

BG2015 · 28/01/2023 11:18

Prescribed this by my respiratory team and Ive used it twice now (Friday/Saturday) alongside my usual Fostair inhaler.

Can't say I've noticed any difference as yet and I'm still breathless with peak flow about 250 (usually 400-450).

Does it take a while to work?

Also can anyone explain my spirometer test results

I use it and can say I am still breathless. However (after taking it for over a couple of years) I can tell when I've missed a dose as I am actually gasping for air the next day and need to use a blue inhaler.

I really should have a proper review but the clinic only does them via an online survey since covid.

I was hoping it would be a miracle cure Confused but I'm in a permanent state of gasping for air.

I was told to wait 2-3 months which seemed a long time! Switched as I was seeing no difference after a week. Saw a difference within a few days. Have previously been told a week or two.

Do you know what your diagnosis is? I am guessing COPD as you have been prescribed the Spiriva.

Your spirometry results are also in keeping with COPD - although thats as far as my knowledge goes, can't comment in detail on them.

Spiriva must be good as it's so widely prescribed but unfortunately it isn't a new set of lungs so there are limits to what it can do.

I've not been diagnosed with COPD as yet.

I had radiotherapy for breast cancer in March 2022 which may be the issue but x rays and CT scans have not detected lung damage because of it. A recent letter from my oncologist said 'a CT thorax done a few weeks ago (nov) shows signs minor ground-glass in the right middle lobe most likely post infective'

I also had covid in April 2022 and the breathlessness began about May. So who knows.

I've just been out for a slow 3km walk and did manage it so I suppose there must some improvement.

I don't understand this sorry. Did the Spiriva work after a few days or did you switch to something else which then worked 🤷‍♀️
