My little boy was really poorly in November/ December with back to back infections and different antibiotics etc ..

He had a bit of a cold last week, but today has a temperature and is not himself, he plays for half hour or so ,then wants to lie down and watch TV. He is drinking but not eating. Temp comes with eith calpol / nurofen

I'm sure it's common , but every time it happens I'm so worried. He goes to nursery (1st year there) so I'm sure he's picking it up from there.

Please someone just reassure me that this is quite normal? Absolutely hate it when he's poorly and i am such a worrier and get so paranoid and anxious

My youngest has been like this, she is 3 too. Through Nov/Dec it was 7 days of high temp, not eating, coughing and vomiting “just viral”, 5 days getting back to normal and them boom temperature again. GP said this age group is been hit particularly hard with under developed immune system and now loads of stronger strains of viruses around.

@Sucessinthenewyear thank you for your reply! It's just horrible isn't it ! Just seems never ending . The poor things 😢

@Sunnyside1902 it’s definitely draining. I get a sinking feeling when ever DD2 gets a temperature. DD2 feels she has had the same amount of illnesses as older sister expect they’ve been crammed into a few months.

GPs will always say viral…they don’t want to give antibiotics.

Illnesses start viral but then become secondary which are bacterial if they hang around…and then it’s not great.

if after a 4-5 days we don’t see DS (4) getting better…we take him to a private GP…who always gives antibiotics and DS’s temp is gone within a day or so and he’s better.

We refuses to have out DS unwell for 2 weeks just on Calpol.

In our reception class….they’ve all been ill over the past 2 weeks….just the time of year..

Well yes, normal. I'd say nursery-age children get ill every two weeks when it's at its worst. We all had flu just before Christmas and my four year old is ill again this weekend with a temperature and a snotty cold. Has he only just started pre-school? He has a lot of illness to get through in afraid!

If he isn't better in a few days or his fever doesn't come down with Calpol/infant Nurofen call the GP.

Sunnyside1902 · 29/01/2023 08:49

Thank you all. His temperature was was high during the night , but I managed to get nurofen in him which did bring it down again.

He seems happy and lively this morning. Has eaten half a pancake but drank plenty. Will see how he is tomorrow and if no improvement i will ring the doctors.

@BooCrew he started nursery In September, once November hit he has been ill often

There was quite a big decline this afternoon after me thinking he was slightly better.

Sore belly ,shivering and cold hands and feet on and off. I rang 111 and now I'm waiting in a walk in centre 😢 all the questions they were asking were related to meningitis, so now I'm freaking out

How's he doing now @Sunnyside1902 ? I hope much better today.

Sunnyside1902 · 30/01/2023 12:46

@BooCrew definitely a bit improvement today ! They said he has a throat infection (again) and is On antibiotics. Can't believe the difference in him compared to this time yesterday!

My friend who is a GP and happy to be write me a private prescription also checked her over and said it was all viral.

Well after me thinking he was on the mend , he woke up vomiting last night and this morning 😢 no temp, and seems OK in himself but can't believe he's not getting sick !
