Think I may have reacted to the penicillen Ive just finished taking , as now covered in blotchy raised red rash. I dont feel other symptoms. I had a bath with lavender oil lastnight, but im still having this burning itchy feeling were the hives are. My mum suggested anti histamines, but I feel im dealing with one problem and giving myself another, as they can make you drowsy. I react quite strongly to any medication ,as seem to have strong nueoro response to things.

Can anyone reccomend anything to take the burning feeling away ?? calamine??

Evening primrose oil or Lavender would be my recommendations, but I do feel it is probably an allergic reaction to something other than antibiotics as this would have become apparent sooner. There are lots of non-drowsy antihistamines on the market that may help, although you might not want to take them they may have the best chance of sorting you out!! Hope you feel better soon my love, hives are rotten xx

i heard somewhere that certain anti-histamines shouldnt be mixed with anti-biotics and they can cause very extreme side effects. Maybe any pharmacists can help with this point further (also grapefruit juice).

Anyway back to your rash, I occasionally get a very itchy hive like rash (source unknown!!!!) and before I hit upon anti-histamines, i used aqueaous cream which did help. Definitely get to see your doc pretty quickly though just so he can see the reaction. When it became obvious i was allergic to penicillan it was mainly my fingers that were itchy and very blotchy although the rash was more pin pricky and tiny blisters.

I used a differen body cream about 2 days ago , it has ginger in it. Itcould be that, but its localised in certain areas.

the anti histimines u need to get will contain loratradrine. this is a non drowsey one.

hydrocortsine can also relieve the itchy/painfull patches.

If you've got a generalised reaction its probably best to take anti-histamine but also a good idea to go to the doctor. I had all-over hives as an allergic reaction to anti-malarials and had to take anti-histamines while finishing the anti-malarial pills for a month.
