I had a terrible infection that left me bed bound, sore throat, aching body, fever etc a few days in I developed muffled hearing then a few days after that this high pitched ringing noise it’s awful! I Googled (I probs shouldn’t have) and terrified it will be permanent. Has anyone recovered from this?

I sympathise, sounds like you're doing all you can and I do hope it stops soon.
Please post updates, I'm sure it will help you get through this.

I just wanted to offer you some support too. I woke up with tinnitus in both ears for no apparent reason just over two years ago. I have multiple different noises in each ear, some of which 'undulate' and a couple that sound like morse code. I thought my life had ended (was only 35 at the time) and couldn't see how I would live peacefully or happily ever again. It took me the best part of 18 months to really get passed the distress and habituate but I can honestly say that although I still have the cacophony going on it hardly ever bothers me at all now. Even if this is permanent, you'll be absolutely fine eventually. I found it very comforting to read about people who live well with it and made an effort to not change anything in my life to accommodate the tinnitus as I felt that would put more focus on it. Good luck, it's horrible now but believe me, it'll get better.

Another one relatively new to tinnitus here 🙂- it's one of my several post-Covid vaccine symptoms.

You truly do get used to it, OP, so try not to worry (it may, of course, just go away). As everyone has said, the less you think about/concentrate on it, the quieter it becomes. I've had it for about a year and barely notice it now, unless (like at this very moment 😀) I think about it.

Getting hearing aids helped mine. The audiologist said my hearing had been affected by an ear infection in the past. My ears also felt muffled but I hadn't made the connection that I'd lost hearing. I thought it was another infection.

I've had tinnitus for a few years now, but like others have said I'm just used to it. Mine is more noticeable if the pressure in my ears isn't quite right - I do that thing where you pinch your nose and gently blow and that makes it more peaceful again..

Thank you .. still no change and my ear is still getting sharp stabbing pains in it. The ear drop if anything is making it worse I think. The longer it goes on the more I am thinking I’m stuck with it! But hopefully I can begin to ignore it. Just wish I could get my hearing back.
