Hi all

4 days ago i went to the dentist and had a general clean. They needed a pretty good clean so it felt like the dentist really went at them.

It did hurt but i put that down to my gums just being really weak but after leaving the dentist i keep having shooting pains that feel like its my top gums connecting to the right side of my head.

Its like a sudden intense migrain which is so bad it makes me stop what im doing .

Can anyone advise on this ???

i would give your dentist a call to ask if that's normal and what they can do about it / when it might subside etc.

I’d call the dentist. The cleaning may have exacerbated some decay going on below the gum line. You don’t mention actually having a dental check up by the dentist, just a cleaning, which is usually by a dental hygenist. Might want to get a full check up with X-rays.

Call your dentist

@Onnabugeisha i forgot to mention they done the whole check up xray the lot and everything was ok. Except i do have wisdom teeth trying to come through but being an ex orthadontal patient i had teeth removed for extra space so those teeth are actually stuck as they are for now.

But i never had pain before going to the dentist on the right upper side in general.

Could this contrabute maybe ?

And someone else replied about decay going below the ga during clenaing, thats a good thought. I will call them but i hope they will be honest with me if they have caused any damage

I am not a doctor or dentist but DH has trigeminal neuralgia which is headaches only on one side, and can be triggered in him by sore teeth amongst other things - could it be this?

Ok, since you did have a full check up, I am thinking perhaps you should call a different dentist and schedule to be seen. Because now it’s sounding like your current dentist isn’t very good at all and like you say, may not admit to damaging your gums (if that is what happened). If it isn’t damage to your gums, then they’ve missed something on the X-rays.

Bad dentists do exist, we just left ours for a new one. We’d been at the same practice for 15yrs and our dentist retired, so they got a new dentist in. And he was telling my DH to have all his teeth pulled and implants put in because my DH has a genetic condition that makes his teeth loose. His teeth are not decaying and his gums are healthy. This sounded extreme so we got a second opinion, and turns out this new dentist is not good at all. He even insisted I replace a filling that was “going bad” and I’ve wondered if it wasn’t to test the waters before going for a big money grab with my DH.

So, I think now, try and through friends find a dentist with a good reputation and have them take a look. I don’t think it’s coincidence the pain started at the dentist. Something has happened or is going on.
