Private dentist won’t see me back after treatment went wrong. Help!

I am in so much pain right now, and concerned I might have nerve damage after a dental treatment a few weeks ago. After a previous root canal treatment done 2 years ago, I went to visit a private endodontist. He said my previously treated upper molar has a failing root treatment, and suggested a surgical root canal treatment, an apicectomy. He said he was slightly concerned as tooth roots were very close to sinus, but said he is happy to continue and will be careful. Procedure was carried out a few weeks ago, and ever since then I cannot fully stretch my mouth, for example wide smiling, yawns etc. what really concerned me was that within the last few days I have started feeling a crawling and prickling sensation along the incision, and spreading into my cheek. Speaking of my cheek, it’s also swollen, red and firm. I have contacted the practice, which advised me that they do not do any emergency appointments, and their next appointment is in mid February. Can they leave a patient in pain like this after something clearly went wrong? I can’t bear another month of living like this, I’m a single mother to a 4 month old. What can I do?

You might have to attend A&E, sounds like an infection OP. Don’t wait .

What the endodontist should and should not do re emergency appointments is a bit academic as they are saying they won’t see you before mid Feb. I imagine though they will have some emergency provision, but they don’t give out freely:

So in terms of your options:

  • Go to your GP. Yes they can’t do much about dental stuff; however, they may assist with contacting the endodontist and saying you need to be seen asap (often professional push can help).
  • Are you near a dental hosptial? They often have A and Es (and it’s nhs so will be free).

So sorry op. That sounds awful I second a&e. It's strange as I had a root canal recently and my orthodontist wanted me to it early on a Mon or Tuesday incase it dislodged an infection or something along those lines, so that he could treat it if needed later in the week as he is closed on weekends. It all went very smooth and I didn't need a follow up.

Sounds infected, you need to get seen asap. You have my sympathies- I had horrific pain recently. Hope you’re sorted soon!
