Sorry - I don't understand - you had diabetic eye screening but you don't have diabetes?

JarByTheDoor · 18/01/2023 12:49

Assuming you're the person who posted about diabetic eye screening the other day, I'm glad to hear you've got a follow-up booked with ophthalmology. They'll just check your eyes over to make sure there's nothing seriously wrong. Good luck 👍

LIZS · 18/01/2023 12:49

Ime it is not that quick an appointment. It may not be related to diabetes but for a more detailed check.

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 12:50

ive also had headaches and eye pain so im concerned about what this can be

BergamotandLime i have diabetis but hospital have said the swelling isnt related to that

Did you need a new prescription? Headaches might be more anxiety related. An urgent appointment is same or next day, they may just have had a cancellation for 30th.

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 12:54

the headaches may be anxiety as i have anxiety but with situations like this your mind works overtime

OP posts:
thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 12:54

the optician never said anything about a new presription

LIZS · 18/01/2023 12:55

Was it a high st optician or the diabetic screening team?

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 12:56

it was high street optician but it was diabtetic screening test thats what the appointment was for

The not knowing is awful.

I had a referral (spots on my eye appearing really quickly so not the same ) -because there isn't a lot of information about opthalmic treatments there is little to reassure you and what there is is generally the scary.

When I went they did an eye test and measured the pressure with the little air puffer thing. It seemed as if they did that for everyone because it meant they had measurements that they could calibrate. Then people were sent to have their eyes scanned and / or photographed... The big photos of eyes are sooooo ugly.

Once they were done it was a really long wait to see the consultant. Take a book....

The UK has really top drawer eye consultants and they seem to network with each other really well. Speak to one and if they aren't certain they will speak to colleagues across the world. You will be in good hands. Xxx

LIZS · 18/01/2023 12:59

Ime they are not fully equipped to do much more than check and refer. Had you been there before so they could compare? Relatives with t2 now go to the hospital run clinics but it does not mean there is a significant problem. Sounds like this is more a check up and they can compare images from each visit.

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 13:02

i hadnt been to this one before i had went to another opiticans before and wasnt happy because they were asking me personal health quesions in the reception area and when i said i wasnt happy about that the guy seeing me was indefferent said i didnt have to answer so thats why i made this appointment with another one

Unescorted thanks i know what your saying and i appreciate it its the not knowing like u say and your mind works overtime i know its stupid but natural

Just go along. They’ll dilate your eye with some drops, which might sting a bit and will make your vision blurry for a few hours. Then they’ll look in the back of your eye and test your pressure. They may put other drops in during the consultation, but They don’t tend to be uncomfortable. Just go along and see what they say, it might be nothing, but if it is anything it’s better to know and get it dealt with.

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 13:06

anyway thanks for replies it means something knowing it wasnt an urgent appointment afterall hopefully its not that serious and whatevers wrong can be managed or treated

You will need someone to drive you home afterwards, or take public transport, and sunglasses as your eyes will be sensitive to light.

Annoyingwurringnoise · 18/01/2023 13:09

Either take someone with you or get a taxi/public transport, because dilating eyedrops will make you unable to drive for a few hours. Also, unless going private expect a couple of hours at least in the hospital.

can you tell I’ve spent a lot of time in the eye hospital…?

thedragonsserpent · 18/01/2023 13:09

good tip about sunglasses yeah ill get taxi home liz _

And be prepared to spend several hours there as different hcp will do the eye-test, images, and consultation with waiting in between.
