Random sore appeared on foot - do I need to bother doctor? Warning - photo

I noticed this random spot had appear on top of my foot a few days ago - I'd noticed it being a bit sore but hadn't noticed anything else before that, prob because I am constantly in socks at the mo and shower in a hurry. It's about 8mm by 12mm.

It looks a bit like a burn, but I'm always in socks and shoes or socks and slippers so can't be, and has an open bit. It still hurts - not terribly but a constant ache.

Having googled the only thing that looks like it is MRSA, which is assume it isn't because there's nowhere I could have caught it and I haven't any other symptoms, but wondering if it might be an infection. Don't want to bother doctor unless I have to. Can anyone offer an opinion?

It doesn't look much like a burn to me, just missing skin/scab and surrounding irritation. The placement looks a like if you catch your foot on the edge of a door or something and shave a bit of skin off, but I think you would notice that?

Try antiseptic
And check your shoes if something is rubbing it

A bite

NADr but no., i've had far worse heal without medical attention. Something has caused damage and now your shoes will rub it unless you cover it. Get some hydrocolloid plasters, keep your shoes off as much as possible, slippers or socks OK when it has a plaster on. Take plaster off when you dont have socks on, rub antiseptic cream around it but the redness may just be a bit of bruising. If the redness starts spreading see a doctor.

Thanks! Wished I hadn't googled after I did - paranoia not helpful 😂

forgot to say -if diabetic seek help sooner, but if diabetic you are likely to know that. Check your shoe, something in has probably caused this.

Do you have any significant past medical history OP?

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 18/01/2023 00:08

No past history, nothing to suggest it's anything to worry about other than me not understanding where it's come from and it's not like a normal cut or bruise. I've drawn around the red but earlier on and it doesn't appear to have grown. It's not hot to the touch or throbbing or weeping.

It's probably nothing - but definitely not from my shoes because nothing has changed about them, I have one pair which I always wear and they aren't new, and if they were rubbing or something in them was causing it they would hurt to wear now but they don't.

I'll try the hydrocolloid plasters - I have some in the cupboard.

This is a very minor wound probably caused by a knock / or footwear rubbing. The tiny bit of redness is normal wound healing. There is no infection . Put a plaster on . It will heal. No cause for concern.

Do you have health anxiety? This seems a very minor thing to worry about.

MyBabyLaura · 18/01/2023 00:29

I've had plenty things like that. It's shoes rubbing not enough to make you stop walking but enough to rub up a blister, burst it and bruise the skin. If you check your shoes you'll probably find it corresponds with the edge of something or a seam or the crease when your foot bends

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 18/01/2023 06:58

I don't tend to have health anxiety, but maybe some tendencies developing I should keep an eye on 😂

One of my kids had similar a few years ago. It kept growing - in the end was treated with antibiotics for impetigo. It should be healing, not getting bigger each day.

picklemewalnuts · 18/01/2023 07:16

I agree with Toast.

I wouldn't rush to the GP, but you need to keep an eye on it and see which way it's going.

How long have you been aware of it?
It should start getting smaller. If it gets bigger, despite not rubbing on your shoes, then it might be something like impetigo. Not alarming, just needs a bit of help.

BewareTheBeardedDragon · 18/01/2023 07:46

Thanks - my sister suggested this possibility which is why I circled it with pen. It didn't grow between yesterday late morning and now, but I will keep an eye.

I had a pair of shoes I wore for a time with no problem. Then one day I walked further than usual, and partly on a slope. I ignored the initial signs of discomfort and got something like this. The more time you can keep your shoes off the faster it's likely to heal but it's going to take a while and the redness may not disappear quickly if your shoe keeps rubbing it.

I think I would smear some sudocrem on it.

SankStir · 27/05/2025 05:09

Ok please have an open mind here but I believe i know what that is and only because I've seem it on my own skin. First off I'd like to ask you. Do you feel like a ball of rubber bands? Suffer from Anxiety? Don't like to be hugged or cuddled? How do you feel about your body? Do you feel like you look like an adult less

This is my first time ever talking about this to anyone. The reason why because I wasn't sure if I was right when I had a theory on what those scabs where
7 years later , I am with out a doubt 100 percent sure of what was happening.

I want to make clear I don't have all the answer like what caused this or when but I am sure it had to be before puberty.

Those sores believe it.or.not. are what I'll say hair deposits. Like matted hair that your body has grown skin over and it's probably been there since you where a child. I have so much to say I don't even where to start but if you have the same thing I did. Try using you thumb and index finger and pinch just above your skin and pull. Just like if yiu where to pill a peace of hair of your sweater. Do this all around that sore. I have never in life had sore on body that by dojngvthat the sore disappear. I should probably write a book but just so you know 7 years I've spent on healing my body privately because no one believe me. I am saying this was the cause of am addiction, it ruin relationship because I couldn't be intimate because I felt squeezed all the time. I had Anxiety issues . I struggled with mirror I did not see the person I thought I was
My self stem and confidence did not exist because my body looked like a child. This is all very hard to explain bug I remember the days in the beginning and how no kne could help me . This is serious I must warn. It's no joke your body is incase in a wrap of your own hair like rope and when you losen one spot anther we'll tighten which can cut blood flow, circulation and very painful times
