How long will a new filling be painful for?

Had a (temporary) filling on Sat, after last one chipped. It's quite a big one, so I imagine there was quite a bit of 'rummaging' near the nerve ending .

Three days later it's still very sensitive, I can't bite on it without a pain, and there's a bit of a dull ache around it.

Is this normal, or do I need to ring the dentist?

I have to go back in a couple of weeks to get a proper one done anyway.

Did they just bung it with some gum type stuff? Mine stayed sore until I had a proper one done, she did a root canal over 2 days hence the bunging.

I had a temp filling put in after root canal work, the pain (mine was exactly like you described) lasted 7 days then went away. I had another two weeks to wait for my filling appointment which was today. (No pain now)

I told my dentist about the pain and she said it was normal after all the work.

No, proper temp one, but she wants to check that it just needs a new filling, and that the tooth hasn't died .

Am hoping to avoid root canal work - ouch!

OK - think I'll take some paracetamol!

I initially got an x-ray and she told me it just needed a filling. Had to wait a month for an appointment for the filling and when I went for it she decided I needed root canal work!

I'm sure the amount of work I needed was due to having to wait so long each time I need an appointment!

Hope it's just a filling that you need and the pain eases soon, you have my sympathy!
