Friend emailing me for advice.. her 15 month old has had diarrhoea for three days, fine in himself, drinking plenty, not v interested in food though atm..

Friend wants to know should she stop giving him milk? (He has two lots a day..)

I said no don't think so.. but will check with MN.

I also said give him bland finger foods, and banana (firming food!) if he will eat it.. and if he develops other symptoms/stops drinking/if it continues for few more days consult GP.. right?

And am I right to tell her not to stop the milk?

I was told by my GP to stop giving milk when my DD had norovirus thing - she was 13 months - but I thought this was really outdated advice these days so umm, ignored it! And she got over it.

Hiya, I'm a nurse (in my spare time..) Current advice is not to stop milk as it's thought children are more likely to develop intolerances as a result of stopping and starting milk. If he's still drinking well, give him as much milk and clear fluids as he'd like and don't worry a lot about the food. Most kids go off it for a few days if they're feeling rough, he'll make up for it once he's better. Hope that helps and he feels better soon.
