Ongoing stomach issues, a long wait for my colonoscopy - should I go back to my GP?

A brief history:
In September and December last year I had two episodes where I had intense stomach cramps, fainting, diarrhoea and then bloody diarrhoea. Both times they were just short episodes that lasted around 3 days. In December I went to the GP, had very high calprotectin in my stool sample but stool culture was negative, all blood tests came back normal aside from slightly low B12 (I'm vegetarian though so might be that).

The wait for an urgent colonoscopy is around 6 months in my trust, so I've got a long wait.

Since December, I've not had any more blood in my stool. However once a week or so I will get diarrhoea, it comes on all of a sudden - stomach cramps and then diarrhoea. I also have stomach aches most days, a burning kind of crampy pain above my belly button. I'm also exhausted, despite getting 8 hours of sleep every night. I've not lost any weight and have a normal appetite.

I don't know whether to go back to my GP and explain the symptoms again, and that they seem to be affecting me more now even though there's not been any more blood. I'd like to know if there's anything over the counter I could take whilst waiting for my colonoscopy to hopefully find out what's wrong. Or would it be a waste of the GP's time as I've already been seen about this issue and have a referral?

As your symptoms have changed since your original referral then I would go back to the GP in case they feel your colonoscopy needs to be expedited.

Go back to dr do a FIT test if positive then you should be referred on a 2 week wait suspected colorectal cancer referral to investigate your symptoms. This is to rule out cancer quickly not saying that you have anything serious most people that are referred do not have cancer.

I didn't think about it in terms of my symptoms changing, but that's a good point and makes me feel better going back to the GP with a specific reason in mind, if that makes sense.

I'll ring them tomorrow for an appointment. I'm just conscious that there's not much they can do whilst I'm waiting for my referral as they can't treat what hasn't been diagnosed, so I'm worried that they will think I'm wasting their time and just need to be more patient

Definitely ask for a FIT test to check for feacal blood. Then they’ll rush it through if it’s high.
