Eyelash stuck in eye for days- should I go to A&E?

I rubbed my eye on Tuesday night and got an eyelash stuck in my eye. It hurt like hell. So far, I've tried flushing it out with tap water (bad, I know), using lots of eye drops, rubbing my eye like a madwoman to try and get it to move but it's still there days later. It's rubbing on my eye each time I blink and is driving me barmy. What should I do?! It's stuck under my top eyelid and there's nothing more I can do. Any advice? Should I go to A&E? The opticians? I'm getting desperate now and don't want to scratch my retina or cause any other eye/vision problems :(

I seem to get this quite regularly. I just do the pulling down of the upper lid while blinking furiously. It seems to move the lash towards the inner corner of the eye, whereupon I shove in my finger and retrieve the little bugger.

I felt exactly the sane as you, has a night of hell with the eye watering and irritation.

Saw an optician, turned out I had one of the worst cornea scratches she'd seen.

From what I can remember, eye drops and soon healed. Felt better very quickly.

Ive just left the opticians where the optom said she can't see an eyelash but she can see a lump on the underside of my eyelid (not a stye) which is causing the scratching sensation as I blink. She said she could make a referral but it would be quicker for me to go to a specialist walk-in eye hospital in the city where I'd get a specialist to further investigate and recommend treatment. Going to feed the DC lunch and head on over there.

No damage to the cornea but the surface of my eye is irritated she said.

Good luck at the eye hospital 💐

Yikes OP, that sounds really unpleasant! I had something similar a while ago (pre-pandemic I think) and I called the GP, who said Eye A&E in another town. I called the opticians instead and they checked for me. They confirmed nothing stuck, just some scratching.

I'm amazed you've only had one poster saying you're not dead enough to go to A&E😂

I scratched my cornea and went to minor injuries - they sent me to the eye clinic the next day but it healed pretty quickly. I’d go to optician or minor injuries.

I scratched my eye last year , called Specsavers the same day and got seen within an hour as part of a deal they have with the NHS

I was really impressed with the treatment and service I got , all for free as well

Opticains I'd go to they have removed a few of my eyelashes a few times. Sometimes they get lodged right behind the eye. Call the opticians they should see you on an emergency then give you drops to make sure the area isn't infected I wouldn't leave them there its dangerous. I used to wear mascara and it got stuck right up in top of my eyelid along with 2 eyelashes so I've not worn it since the opticains pulled it out ASAP
