Teeth Whitening and Composite Veneer

I had a fall in September which resulted in me hitting my mouth and cracking my front tooth. It’s not cracked in half, but there is a horizontal crack in the tooth that is visible.

I have been to the dentist several times since this has happened and had many check ups and X-rays. I’m told that the tooth has not died yet, will die eventually and at that point I will need RCT and then a crown or veneer. Although I don’t want any of that to happen, I’ve accepted it is the inevitable, however, I don’t want to get any of that done until I HAVE to.

I have asked my dentist what I can do in the mean time to improve the overall look of the tooth and he has said the least invasive approach is to get a composite veneer/composite bonding done on that tooth to disguise/cover the crack, but get my teeth whitened beforehand. I like the idea of this but my dentist has said that composite bonding is high maintenance and I will have to go back every 6-9 months to get a clean.

I was just wondering if anyone had had anything like this done, do you regret it? Is the composite bonding a pain to maintain etc? I really want my smile back but I’m worried I’ll regret having this done.

I have a veneer on one front tooth to solve this and didn't have my teeth whitened before, my dentist sent me to a company that colour match your veneer to your existing teeth. I've had it 8 years now and thinking about changing it in the next couple of years as my natural teeth are starting to look a bit yellower/older.

Thanks @Flowerfairy101 is that a composite veneer or a ceramic/porcelain?

DS had composite veneers done 6 years ago to hide discoloured teeth as has mild enamel hypoplasia. They still look great and dentist said they’re not anywhere near ready to have redone. I didn't notice them discolouring but they looked so white and bright after a hygienist appt 5 years later, and a year on they are still looking good. There’s not really any maintenance for them
other than cleaning your teeth as normal, and I’m sure you will be better at this than my teenage DS!
