Anyone else had piles for years?

mummarunner · 12/01/2023 21:14

I have had the joy of haemorrhoids for a couple of years now. I’ve tried Anusol and Germoloids but they are not going away.

The thing is they don’t cause me any pain, itching or bleeding so do I need to be worried? Everywhere I read says they should disappear within a couple of weeks but mine have no sign of going anywhere. I think I’m stuck with them, but is that ok if they are not bothersome? Or will it cause me problems later in life if I leave them?

Any personal experiences welcome!

Am exactly same had then for about 4 years I do wonder if I should get them checked but haven't bothered as like you no issues with them I use germoloids also just to make sure they don't get bigger.

Wab · 12/01/2023 21:29

Like you I'm the same I've had them since I was pregnant with my child 5 years ago. Sometimes it hurts but mostly go unnoticed, partner has loving called him Kyle the pile 🤣

BlueBlueBlueWinter · 12/01/2023 21:35

If they're not bothering you then I wouldn't do anything, to be honest. I was about to have a hemorrhoidectomy a couple of years ago, and then read up into it more and cancelled the op. I have read so many nightmare stories about the surgery and also the Rafaelo procedure.

I use a treatment from Amoils when they're acting up and am so glad I didn't go down a more drastic route.

KangarooKenny · 12/01/2023 21:36

I’ve had them for 20+ years since I had my first child. They don’t bother me every day, just if I have diarrhoea or if it’s hot.

illbeinthegarden · 12/01/2023 21:39

I've had mine 26 years since being pregnant with my eldest. Occasionally they get itchy but on the whole don't know I have them. I had also looked into having them removed and heard horror stories so I'll keep em!

Circumferences · 12/01/2023 21:40

Aren't they just skin tags though?

Haemorrhoids are actual inflamed, sore and red bulges.

Once the haemorrhoid inflammation has gone you can be left with dangling skin tags which don't cause any issues apart from making it more difficult to wipe properly.

You can get the skin tags removed easily but not on the NHS.

mummarunner · 12/01/2023 21:41

Ok this is reassuring, thank you all for sharing. I guess I just don’t want to store up any problems for later in life but hopefully that won’t be the case. Not sure if I’d let my hubby name them though!

Thanks for discussing this lovely subject with me 😊

Yup still have them - like another poster says they’re more like skin tags now. They become bothered if I get the runs and are occasionally itchy but they don’t bother me generally. Removal sounds horrific and potentially pointless so I’m happy to leave them unless they cause me discomfort. I’ve never actually looked at them and would prefer not to 😂

Hmm I don’t think so. They are proper bulgy purple, about the size of a pea and at last 5 or 6 of them😬Not sure if that’s a skin tag but I’m off for a google now.

Yes, me!
On and off since I had my first baby 15 years ago….they flare up every now and then, the most recent was over the summer. They gave me grief for about 3 months which is the longest they had played up for.
I was on the verge of looking into further treatment when they settled back down again. Reading some of the posts on here regarding surgery or procedures and I’d say leave well alone unless they are really affecting your life.
Mine aren’t currently bothering me, but they are still there! And I imagine they always will be 😩

Hoppinggreen · 13/01/2023 12:39

Mine started in my last month of pregnancy with DS and he’s now 14.
Me and my arse grapes have a mutual agreement that they won’t give me too much trouble and I will leave them alone.
Removal sounds horrific so they would have to be a real issue before I considered it

Lucie11 · 04/10/2024 21:57

@BlueBlueBlueWinter can I ask you about your experience with the Amoils oil please?
I have high hopes for this, have been using for 3 weeks and not sure if much improvement!
Thank you x

I've had piles for years. I had a colonoscopy many years ago and was told I'd always have them and that I'd probably have to take stool softeners if I ever get pregnant. Most of the time they don't cause any problems. When they flare up I use germoloid cream which does help but thankfully it doesn't flare up too often. I'd not worry too much if I were you given my consultant didn't seem too concerned about them.

Bruisername · 04/10/2024 22:09

I went to the dr and got a prescription treatment you can’t get over the counter and they were gone within the week. Still flare up very occasionally but if otc won’t sort it I’ll be straight back for the prescription stuff!

Bruisername · 04/10/2024 22:09

Pregnancy really messes you up!!!

OwlOwlOwl · 04/10/2024 22:27

@Bruisername what was your medication called please?

Are we talking about external piles here??
I have had these piles for about 15 yrs. Hate them. Germoloids not helping

Looked into banding that only works on internal ones. I only knew about external

Bruisername · 04/10/2024 22:31

I’m sorry I don’t know as it was so long ago.

Lcru · 24/02/2025 17:28

@BlueBlueBlueWinter can I ask how you got in with using the amoils oil?
thank you ☺️

BlueBlueBlueWinter · 24/02/2025 20:44

I was desperate to find anything that might help before resorting to surgery. Within two weeks of using them I wasn't getting pain going to the loo anymore - now it hasn't been completely cured, and I still have the oil next to the loo just in case it gets bad again (the same bottle I first bought!).

I was 2 days away from having surgery back in January 2021, and four years later the thought could not be further from my mind - now it might have been a total coincidence, but I'm not a great believer in them.

BobaTea · 28/05/2025 21:22

I've mine for 20 years+. They first appeared after giving birth. I'm not sure if they ever went away because I've recently started noticing them again.

Those that have them for years, did you get them checked? How can you be sure they are piles?

keeponplodding7 · 30/05/2025 08:36

I’ve had one checked as having trouble for a month now. My main symptom is is hurts when sitting down for a long period and I can almost feel pressure so debating whether to go back to the gp again for further checks to make sure that it is the Hemorrhoid causing the uncomfortable feeling …..
