  • Nausea for on and off a month, worse in the past 2 weeks where its been every day. No rhythm or reason to it. Seems random. Found lying down eases it. Definitely worse at night before bed.
  • Lightheadness over the past week occasionally.
  • Stomach discomfort for 2 weeks, like when you've eaten too much. Burping doesn't ease it, neither does gaviscon taken when required.
  • Tiredness
  • Pooping more frequently but still solid. Think twice a day instead of once.
  • Random metallic taste in mouth.
  • Late period by approx 5 days. Negative PG test.

Seen GP last week who told me to take Gaviscon 4 times a day for a week and report back to have a stool sample done for H. Pylori? Gaviscon 4 times a day did ease the nausea mostly but it still flared up at night.

Sample to be handed in on Friday so it'll be Monday or Tuesday before I hear back. Another weekend of this nearly has me in tears.

I've never had an endoscopy or anything like that and she said it wasn't necessary at the moment, thank goodness.

Eightiesgirl · 12/01/2023 13:25

@OnNaturesCourse I've been racking my brains as to what could have caused it. The only thing that springs to mind, and I am definitely not an anti vaxxer, is that I got the first stomach problems after I had the covid jab in March 2021, I became ill in the April. I had my booster in November 2022 and became ill in the December. I might be totally wrong and hopefully it's just a coincidence.

Nicetoseeyou1980 · 12/01/2023 13:25

Have you been taking any medication? Ibuprofen and such like?

I have similar to you mine Is Duodenitis confirmed by endoscopy.

OnNaturesCourse · 12/01/2023 17:32

No Ibruprofen or such like recently. I was on co-codamil (spelling sorry) for a month around late October.

Its been better today. Made a point of small meals and taken time but it's still lingering like it's waiting to boil up and start.

I always thought a hernia pain like that would be slightly higher up, almost behind the ribs.

OP posts:
justasking111 · 12/01/2023 18:00

No that's heartburn. Hiatus hernia isn't great, I've had one for decades. Careful diet, loose clothing, take your bra off especially if wired. Bending over, slouching on the sofa after meals. Omeprazole takes a while to work your insides will be sore and take time to heal.

OnNaturesCourse · 12/01/2023 19:08

Ah okay, thanks. Those I know with it suffer higher up. Mine is much lower than my bra line.

It may not be, but have you considered a test for Coeliac's Disease? Needs to be an endoscopy via a GP and not some random allergy test (i.e. one of those hokum send in hair, etc ones).

I did consider it however eating toast is the one thing that doesn't make me feel horrific. Isn't bread full of gluten?

Update from little me...

Symptoms have taken a massive turn in the right direction, suddenly. Still getting a slight discomfort mainly at night but I even managed to have a hot drink without feeling like I was going to be sick yesterday.

My period finally showed up too.

Going to keep a close eye on things. Wondering if anxiety / hormones made things worse?

How is everyone else feeling?

OnNaturesCourse · 16/01/2023 09:00

Another update.
This is turning into more of a log for me. But hoping it may help others.

I'm still having periods of nausea after that one good day. I'm now trying to remove certain foods for a while to see if thatf helps.

I'm so tired with it but not sure if I'm tired of how I feel or genuinely tired anymore.

Its stoll not the worst it's been but it's lingering.

I've stopped gaviscon because it doesn't help.

@OnNaturesCourse you have my sympathy. My guts haven’t been the same since having covid in the summer. I’ve had every test known to man and nothing has been found - possible slow motility but that’s not really of consequence.
Have been on omeprazole on and off but it’s not working that well now. Speaking to GP this week to ask for a different ppi and to get her opinion again! My calprotectin levels have been high, higher & then normal again so that’s confusing. My main symptom is reflux now though and I’m on a v restrictive diet which has helped.

YearoftheRabbit23 · 16/01/2023 12:46

@JustDanceAddict are you taking probiotics? Could help as well?

I was, need to find some cheaper ones though to carry on with. Any recs that aren’t £50pcm??

gogohmm · 16/01/2023 13:17

Acid reflux is likely. One tip is to try to finish your meal at least 3 hours before you lay down to sleep. Another is to look at diet - white bread, fruit juice and fatty foods make me worse

YearoftheRabbit23 · 16/01/2023 13:25

@JustDanceAddict I'm not taking supplements, instead I'm drinking kefir. Milk kefir has more probiotics than water kefir but I find water kefir more palatable. Ginger water kefir is lovely!

justasking111 · 16/01/2023 13:43

If you're over weight or have had children you can develop a hiatus hernia. I got the teeshirt

Peabody25 · 16/01/2023 14:44

I'm not sure how helpful this is but I had very similar a few years ago, and mine was all anxiety/ hormone related.

A lot of the symptoms were there all the time but the feeling anxious about them made me notice them more, and they were definitely worse in the few days leading up to my periods that month.

The gp put me on anti-nausea medication and food wise I just went back to eating very plain foods, no sauces, nothing like rice etc that increased the heartburn and as I started to feel better I became less anxious about it so it became less obvious and gradually got better.

Eightiesgirl · 16/01/2023 17:06

@justasking111 hope you don't mind me asking but what symptoms did you get with hiatus hernia? My GP suspects I have one. I've been put on Lansoprazole. I get aches and discomfort under my ribs, particularly my left rib and I feel very tired quickly. Just wondered if that sounded familiar? Thanks

OnNaturesCourse · 16/01/2023 21:17

Thank you all for your replies.

In regard to the lying down afte meals. It doesn't matter... I can sit up right and after dinner I can expect my stomach to start gurgling and burning. Sometimes after lunch too but not as bad. I have found lying down on my side is the only way to ease it when it's flared up, I can lie on my back and it eases a little but not completely.

I have considered my anxiety. I have noticed the past few days that I'm almost holding my stomach, well like bracing the muscles there by holding them tense without thinking. Some deep breathing relaxes it and the pain eases but not completely. I wonder if I do have reflux but the tensing is making it feel worse if that makes sense.

I went out a walk today after lunch and one hour I thought I was going to either pass out or throw up when going up a steep incline but afterwards it was totally fine again (distracting by having collected the kids from school maybe?)

Trying to keep my mind busy over the next few days.

Really sorry to hear this. When you next see your GP ask them to consider gall bladder issues.

OnNaturesCourse · 17/01/2023 19:01

Had my gallbladder and liver scanned not long ago when I had a pulled muscle in my side and back. All was well.

Thank you tho.

My LO has come down with an almighty stomach bug so least that's keeping me distracted!

OP posts:
OnNaturesCourse · 20/01/2023 14:19

Results came back clear for H Pylori.

Symptoms are better but still achy at night.

Have made a point of properly chewing food and taking time to eat, and not having dinner a hour before bedtime...

DC has down with a awful sickness bug, complaining of pain in same area. Didn't last as long as my symptoms tho and they were physically sick with theirs so don't know if related.
