gynaecological tests

Does anyone know where I can have a gynaecological checkup?? My GP is useless- I had a miscarriage last year, & 'things' don't look quite right 'down below'. After my miscarriage I was told that my GP would check me, but he didn't. I changed doctor, but he is useless too. I feel at the end of my tether, cos they refuse to check me physically and I'm getting really worried. They won't refer me to a gynaecologist, so I'll willing to pay privately. Bupa does something called a 'Wellwoman' assessment but this includes a pelvic examination & lots of unrelated tests that I don't need for £220. I was wondering if anyone knew of something similar & appropriate. Thnak you.

Think the Wellwoman would be too vague and general for you - can't you lean on your doctor for a private referral?

The NHS have well woman clinics all over the place. Could you ring your surgery or local health authority and ask them where there is one near you? It might only provide a general examination, but it will be free, the doctors will be more tuned in to your particular problem, and it may act as a stepping stone towards a referral.

One way of getting a doctor to look at your bits so to speak is to take yourself along to a GUM clinic, where they do all the testing for STD's etc. They take vaginal swabs etc if you want to be tested and you should have to opportunity to raise your concerns, maybe without even having those tests done if you think them unnecessary. Just an idea, perhaps not the nicest one but I got reffered to a gyneacologist from there after having PID repeatedly for no obvious reason. HTH!

Local sexual health centres are usually very good and IME the staff are often very sympathetic and kind. You can find your local one in the yellow pages.

Good luck
