Suddenly can't hear right in one ear

I have this really weird sensation in my left ear from last night. I got up around 4am to let my dog out for a wee, and had this feeling like I'm underwater and I can't hear right. I thought nothing of it and went back to bed, but its still here today!
No pain. Just can't hear right

I'm 31, good health.
Anyone experienced anything like this before?

I had 3 occasions of this happening in the same ear within the last 2 years. After a week/months the hearing suddenly came back.

First call to GP they suggested just wax build up, second occasion I had an exam and was told my eardrum appeared to be bulging, so could be inflammation due to an infection previously. I was given nasal steroids.

The last occasion went on for 6 months and I was finally referred to ENT but there's a year wait. I went privately and found out I actually had a benign cyst which was blocking my hearing, it was popped and my hearing came back instantly. I've now been referred on for surgery as I was told it would only keep reoccurring. The condition is called cholesteatoma.

Anyway, the point of all this is to say it could be anything from wax, to an infection, a cyst or something else of course! Give your GP a call if your hearing hasn't improved in a week and in the meantime try steaming and olive oil drops which is the advice I was given when a wax buildup was suspected.

I hope it doesn't last too long for you, I was really miserable!

Thank you so much for replying, and I'm glad you got sorted.
Found the culprit - it was nothing more than a bit of moisture in my ear and is now fixed. I'm so glad too as it's such a strange sensation.

Ah that's good news. Glad it was an easy solution!
