Pain killers from dentist of GP?

I am suffering with a tooth infection that has gone into my bone/jaw. I have antibiotics from the dentist and was controlling the pain with paracetamol and ibuprofen but today it’s quite painful and over the counter pain killers are not cutting it. Do I call the dentist for a prescription? Or my gp? If I get one from my dentist it will involve going to pick up the prescription and then taking it to the pharmacy where as the gp can send it direct to my pharmacy.
just to add there’s nothing else over the counter I can take as I can’t take codeine.

GP I think, pretty sure my dentist has only ever prescribed antibiotics.

GPs do not ordinarily prescribe for dental issues. Dentist would normally be your first port of call.

Your dentist can prescribe pain killers. However, ibuprofen at the right dose it more effective than most other pain killers for dental pain.

Thank you, I managed to get by with ibuprofen, it took the edge off enough to get me through the day. Hopefully the antibiotics are starting to work now.

When I had a really bad infection the only thing that made a dent in my pain (before I could get antibiotics) is cocodamol (which you can buy at a pharmacy) and orajel which almost numbs the area. Fingers crossed its sorted soon, dental pain is the absolute worst
