Awful debilitating nerve pain for 5 years - only thing that has ever remotely helped is amitriptyline which has taken edge off at times but SO awful a lot of the time. New dr has suggested trying gabapentin or pregabalin

Has anyone had these help with pain at all? thank you

I didn't gain weight with pregabalin for the first 2 years I was in it. The drug itself doesn't cause weight gain. It increases your appetite. If you eat too much, obviously you will gain weight. I had other stuff happen in life and then the weight followed as I had lost the resolve and ate when I felt hungry. It's not easy. I've come off it now. It was absolutely perfect for the pain. But the cognitive impact left me unable to hold down a job. Overall, I'm much better without it, but if circumstances were different, I would go back to it and try again. Good luck.

I've taken gabapentin and have been taking pregablin for about 10 years. No issues at all after first few weeks and it definitely helps with the pain.

Thank you so much for your replies. It certainly seems to be helping with the pain which is a massive relief. No weight gain or increased appetite yet nut I definitely feel a bit fuzzy headed....

Tegretol (Carbamazepine) had unbearable side effects, so I was switched to Gabapentin. Much better. V slight, liveable-with side effects that diminished further with time. And good pain relief. I've been on it for over 10 years now. I take it for TN and managed to find the lowest amount that I can take that still gives me pain relief after initially having to work up to quite a high dose.

Dsis took pregablin for her post-chemo neuropathy. Found that to be the best for her. It has a slow release version.
