DD has been suffering from UTIs since around the age of 6 months. We are up to 7 infections now total, including the most recent 2 being Klebsiella infections.
She is on a daily Trimethoprim prophylactic, and we suspect this is why the most recent infections have been Klebsiella as it's resistant to Trimethoprim.
We are at the stage where it seems a new infection appears as the previous antibiotics course ends.
DD is being seen as an inpatient at our local hospital paediatrics department, we have had an ultrasound in November 2022 (which showed no abnormalities) and we have an MCUG booked in February 2023, although we concerned at the time it's taking for the investigations to move. (An MCUG was originally requested around the time of the ultra sound, but was cancelled for reasons unknown, given DD very clearly qualifies for an MCUG based on the nice guidelines)
We can't contact our Paediatrics consultant as we are never able to get through via the phone, we rely on being contacted by the consultant. In general it feels like things are not being taken very seriously and things are moving very slowly. E.g. we need to discuss the current prophylactic, and whether it should be adjusted.
Our local GPs option is to just deal with the individual infections as they arise, rather than looking at the bigger picture which is covered under the Paediatrics consultants care. We raised our concerns with our GP who has written to our consultant, but other than that we are a bit stuck.
We are rather concerned that this slow approach could lead to preventable Kidney damage. Our poor DD is living with constant infections, high fevers and is clearly often in pain and her gut is suffering after approx 15 courses of antibiotics now.
Any advice is appreciated. Has anyone got any similar experiences and has anyone explored the private healthcare route with this? We are getting desperate to resolve this.
