Calendula cream worked a treat on my baby's dry skin on cheeks and thighs...can get it from Boots . All natural and smells nice too.

BitTiredNow · 04/02/2008 08:48

Aveeno works for mine too

bumbly · 04/02/2008 08:51

Aqueous cream?

lailasmum · 04/02/2008 08:52

shea butter is really good and really natural.

bumbly · 04/02/2008 08:53

Aqueous cream not recommended for babies with eczema (as this sounds like it might be), as up to 50% of them are allergic to it.

Aveeno, Epaderm, Doublebase, Diprobase are generally the ones that GPs would recommend trying.

Maveta · 04/02/2008 08:54

Calendula dried my ds' skin out something awful, got rid of the red inflamed teething rash but left his skin so so dry.

Sudocrem is working a treat..

lapinindetention · 04/02/2008 08:55

DS has the same thing - "natural" stuff didn't work for us as a lot of it contains lavender and he and I are both allergic to it. Aqueous cream has been good though.

2sugars · 04/02/2008 08:56

Sorry Meg at al. Didn't know that.

lapinindetention · 04/02/2008 09:00

Lord I am a crap mummy!

Meg's post made me go and look - we don't use aqueous cream, we use emollient cream. Prescribed by the GP for eczema, it's called Cetraban.

bumbly · 04/02/2008 19:31

dare i say it

is J and J baby moisturising cream that bad??

OP posts:
MegBusset · 04/02/2008 20:29

J&J products are notoriously harsh on sensitive skin, but you could always test on a small patch to see if your LO has a bad reaction to it.

lailasmum · 05/02/2008 08:52

you can buy plain organic unrefined shea butter from lots of suppliers online, It comes sort of in lumps. Then you melt a little bit on your fingers. and smooth it on. That has nothing in it but shea butter. Works a treat on sore faces and hands because its a tad greasy/protective but without being heavy. It does soak in nicely though after a little while.

went to gp as redness getting worse - she said couldnt see anything - then got home and he was in a huge red rash and my hubby was amazed at how gp could say there was nothing..even friend in street said oh he looks red...

this morning he is also bright red and blotchy - as if bruised on wrists/under arm -

what do i do?

my gp practice is rubbish never supportive - they prescribed me e45 which i am sure is not suitable for a baby's face

tried aqueous cream as suggested here - feels nice on skin must say

so hoping it will sooth face and now his poor arm

wonder what this is as no history of excema in my family at all

red bltochy skin...most odd

MegBusset · 07/02/2008 10:04

Bumbly, sorry that your GP wasn't much use. I would go back tbh and ask for a second opinion.

E45 contains lanolin which can cause an allergic reaction.

Eumobase is wonderful. (Not eumovate which is too strong). Ds2 had terrible red raw bits whne he was tiny (he was a preemie) and every time he cried it made it worse. Just putting the cream on him used to soothe him.
