DD2 has Chicken Pox and is desperately tired; but obviously in a lot of discomfort - particularly from the soreness ans spots around her "bits". She's had Piriton, Calpol and has Calamine and Aqueous on the spots. She's so tired. Poor love. She won't come into our bed, keeps asking to go back to her bed and then crying out for us. DH is on the floor in theere atm. Any ideas / help / support?? Argh!

A cool bath with some bicarb of soda in should ease her discomfort, poor thing.

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 00:43

Thank you Elf - not sure how condusive she'd be to getting into a bath right now!! I think she'd go craaaazy!

If you tell her it will help her naughty chickens get sleepy, she might be happy to get in?
Worth a shot??

That what we called my nephews chicken pox .

thelittleElf · 04/02/2008 00:54

Is it possible to open her window slightly to cool her room down? It may help?

I'm off to bed now, but i really hope she manages to settle down soon.

Hang in there!

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/02/2008 00:59

aqueous cream is a bit crap, IME.

Buy some Eurax cream or lotion tomorrow - it is magical stuff. It works for up to 15 hours too I think so no need to keep applying every couple of hours.

discoverlife · 04/02/2008 01:02

I was once told that Anusol (hemeroid cream)works for the really bad spots. It stops the itch dead and dries up the spots. I don't know about the suitability for young children, but it worked on my older kids.

Oh I dunno sally. Mind you, with DD her eczma meant that calamine lotion made her itch all the more. She had the Cpox itch, adn the eczma itch all at once.

Eurax really was fab.

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 01:11

Thank you VVVQV - might go and try and find some now ....... Poor thing, she really can't sleep.

She is 2.9 yrs, SS.

Shes' not that hot btw - just uncomfortable and itchy.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/02/2008 01:14

Oh I remember how awful it was when DD got it. She was about 18 months old I think. That first night we ended up bringing her into our bed because she was waking every 15-20 minutes with the itch and we were shattered.

With her in our bed we could slap calamine on without having to open our eyes.

The next day DH went to the chemist and they recommended the Eurax. She slept through the night completely that night.

Ace stuff.

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 07:42

Will get some today - thanks for the tip.

She went to sleep about 2am I think, so not too bad, very tired this morning (her and us!!)

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/02/2008 22:13

How has she been today CD?

thelittleElf · 04/02/2008 22:15

I was wondering how things were going aswell

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 22:58

Awwww, thanks guys - she is ok - she's such a stoic wee thing - she's a usually a bit of a crazed nutter, a bit wild and unpredictable; but since contracting the Pox she has been so subdued - It's actually a lot easier to handle, but I miss my little nutter!! Where'd she go!!? She is ok enough - very, very spotty and sore ; but not so bad - been piling on the camamile and bought some Eurax, which is working wonders so far ..... no waking up ...... yet!! Gave her a Bicarb of Sada bath and pumped her full of Piriton and Calpol. Poor thing.

Thank you for your concern and help / advice.

VeniVidiVickiQV · 04/02/2008 23:03

Oh I'm so glad she's more comfortable tonight. It's a miserable illness.

PrettyCandles · 04/02/2008 23:03

Dd's worst spots were on her bits. We got a calamine cream (rather than lotion) which helped wonderfully.

At least the worst passes fairly quickly. Oats, bicarb of soda, and cornflour in the bath are very soothing. Let her spend as long as she wants in the bath, and even several times a day. It's distracting as well as soothing.

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 23:03

Tis, but better to get it as a child than an adult.

CaptainDippy · 04/02/2008 23:04

Easier said than done, PC - two other children in tow also .....

I want to stay in the bath all day ......

Night guys!
