Chicken pox twice??

Anyone had or know anyone that has had CP twice?

I'm still recovering from a bout of this awful flu doing the rounds, almost 3 weeks along, my chest is still very rattly and I'm very tired. It really floored me and I've never felt so ill before, even when covid knocked me for six.

DD2 has just come down with CP, noticed spots yesterday but the first 2 must have appeared the day before (delicate places so missed at first!). Despite having CP as a child, I am absolutely covered in what looks like early stage CP spots that also appeared yesterday, and am unbearably itchy. It's not shingles as all over my arms, front, back, neck, one or two or legs and a couple on forehead. Seems ridiculous to think it could be the pox, but wondering if it could be, can't think what else it would be and timing with daughter seems more than a coincidence.

Are your spots blistering too?

Cruiseyoulose · 30/12/2022 19:25

Yep I had them twice . Once aged 5 and again at 21.
was absolutely awful as an adult , spent two full weeks in bed, crying with the pain!
Hope you have somebody looking after you ❤️

My dd had chicken pox twice, then shingles at 10! Very unusual but it happens.

toastfiend · 30/12/2022 19:26

DH has had Chickenpox twice so could be that. I think sometimes if you had it mildly the first time the immune response isn't quite as strong, although I'm not medical so happy to be told I'm talking bollocks. Either way, I know from DH that it's not impossible that it's CP even if you've had it before. Might be worth contacting your GP for advice as it tends to be more serious for adults, I think?

OnlyFoolsnMothers · 30/12/2022 19:27

Yes you can have it more than once especially if mild the first time.
however I was sure DD1 had had chickenpox when she was 2, letter from the nursery and then came out in a rash. She then had chicken pox at 5, looking back her original chicken pox was very bad hand foot and mouth .

Ducksurprise · 30/12/2022 19:28

One of mine had it mild as a child and then was floored in their 20's by it. Whatever it is I hope you feel better soon

queenoftheglee · 30/12/2022 19:29

I have had CP twice, and shingles. Youngest DC has also had CP twice.

HirplesWithHaggis · 30/12/2022 19:31

I had it twice, once aged about 8 (and my poor mum had four of us come down with it, one after the other) and again almost 50 years later when dgs had it and passed it on. Pretty mild both times.

rainbowandglitter · 30/12/2022 19:31

My ds has had CP at least 4 times. All confirmed at the doctors each time

Herja · 30/12/2022 19:31

Some people don't build immunity. A good friend has had CP six times so far (and counting as she works in a school!).

spydie · 30/12/2022 19:35

Spots don't look like they are blistering although I've been scratching like mad so hard to tell with some! They are pink raised and some have a tiny clear center but don't seem to be growing into full blown blisters (like poor DD!). I feel OK ish at the moment other than still wiped out from the flu! Although maybe a mild version if that's even possible, I definitely remember having it around age 4 and was covered in spots 🤣

Or could be a post viral rash.
Have you tried taking an antihistamine?

Remainiac · 30/12/2022 19:41

DGC2 caught CP from DGC1 at only 3 weeks old. Doc said don’t assume baby won’t get it again as at that age they’re unlikely to develop immunity.

Have given them a go, sooo itchy. I did wonder that but wasn't sure if it was too far out, at almost 3 weeks.

I had it 3 times as a child. My mother caught it when pregnant on me so probably messed up my immunity. None of my kids have had it.

Utini · 30/12/2022 19:46

Worth contacting GP / 111 I think, as chickenpox can be more serious in adults. If it is CP they may give you an antiviral drug.

Emmamoo89 · 30/12/2022 19:48

I had them 3 times

CatSpeakForDummies · 30/12/2022 19:51

I had it as an adult but I have autoimmune issues. I'd avoid scratching as the fact I was vulnerable enough to catch CP meant I also developed impetigo in the scars and it was a horrible mess of dressings and care. I probably annoyed every HCP by telling them I'd already had chickenpox!

scooobie · 30/12/2022 19:52

I’ve had them twice so yes, it is possible but there are also a lot of post viral rashes.

DB has just come out in what looks like CP but it’s actually guttate psoriasis. Doctor said there’s a lot of it about at the moment.

I also had pitycaris (sp) rosea after Covid. Which is similar.

Hellocatshome · 30/12/2022 19:55

I've had chicken pox twice and shingles 3 times. That virus really likes me.

daisyjgrey · 30/12/2022 20:36

I had it three times as a child, twice fairly mildly then a big one.
