Eye question for anyone medical around

I had a yag capsulotomy on friday. My eye has good vision now and is not red or weepy but it feels 'grumpy', dry and itchy. I have reacted in the past to some contact lens solutions so I suspect it might be reacting to one of the drops. Or it could be psychological!

If it still feels irritated tomorrow should I contact my gp, my optician or the eye ward?

I'm not booked for a follow up for 6 weeks. (should have been a month but it was fully booked and receptionist was insistent that was the first one)

I would just pop into your GP or optician - you need someone to just have a wee look into your eye to make sure there's no problem there.

ok. thanks
I'll give my optician a call in the am. I think theyve got more of the right tools for having a look.

Eye still grumpy and I'm not quite sure if my vision isnt quite so clear today.
Optician won't see me, says I need to talk to hospital. No doctors at hospital yet. I've to phone back at 9:30.
I'm sure its nothing, just a huge pita. I suspect I'm fussing about nothing. Got to try and find someone to take me there if I've to go in.

Hi BK,

Dh had a lensectomy, vitrectomy and lens implant about 3 weeks ago, and was doing great for the first couple of days.

3 days post-op, his sight deteriorated quite scarily, his eye was angry and sore too (when it had previously been OK). We rang the eye care nurse on the ward where he'd stayed, and she advised dh to pop up to eye casualty to have it looked at.

He was using 3 kinds of drops, Midrilate (?sp), Chloramphenicol and Maxitrol. One of these had a cumulative effect and it was this that was causing his blurred vision and problems. The doctor at casualty reassured us that nothing was wrong, and that the eye was healing nicely. Dh was told to stop using these drops when he went back to see the surgeon, and his sight is now improving.

I hope that yours turns out to be something similar, but please do get it checked out. I know it's a pain

thanks deepbreath. Your poor dh - why did he need the vitrectomy?
I phoned hospital. They said its to be expected after the surgery and to give it another couple of days. If it gets worse or doesnt resolve give them another call.
In a way I wish someone would have looked at it for me. I'm sure they are right but i've had so much happen that I really could do with the extra reassurance.

I hope your dh settles nicely. Its very early days for him. My cataracts were done last march. I had multifocals which made the adapatation longer but it does take a while anyway.

Hi BK, how are your eyes today? I hope that they're a little more comfortable.
I don't blame you for wanting someone to check that all is well. Have you got a post-op check up soon, or not? Do ring them if you're still worried.

Dh has got marfan syndrome, which made his lenses sublux. I think that they did the vitrectomy because he was at greater risk of retinal detachment after the lensectomy and implant than most patients... or maybe just because it allowed the implanted lens to be put in the best position. They usually do it if there's blood/debris in the vitreous humour (causing floaters), but I'm sure they said his was clear.

Dh will probably need reading glasses, as the implanted lens has made him slightly long-sighted. They'll do the other eye in around 3 months, all being well. It's already made a huge difference to how much he can see, even if it is just on one eye.

Thank you for the kind message, and please let me know how you're doing.

More comfortable thanks not as clear as it was but it is still early. As its not got worse I'm not nearly so worried.
I'm really glad its made a big difference for your dh. Its massively more comfortable after you get the second eye done. I was very short sighted so they did it two weeks apart. Keep me updated - its nice to talk to someone going through fairly similar stuff
