Ovulation pain and hip pain

Hoping some wise mumsnetter can offer advice.

DS is 2 and since his birth I've had zero period pains which is wonderful. My cycles are regular and bang on however something new that's happened since his birth is ovulation pain. I've never had it before but literally 2 weeks before I am due on it arrives and honestly it feels like I've put my hip out sometimes. Some times it's just a dull ache but other months like today it honestly fees so painful to walk. It usually last 12/24 hours and then it's gone

Is this normal? Does anyone else suffer hip pain or should I have a chat to the gp?

Not sure if it’s normal but I get exactly the same thing. Some times it’s so bad I can barely stand up.

I have had this, not every month but sometimes it is really bad. At first I thought it was a UTI or something as it was so painful. If it is concerning you, or you are trying and struggling to conceive then I would ask your GP.

I sometimes get this, can make it difficult to walk, and yes it feels like hip pain sometimes!

TheBirdintheCave · 23/12/2022 22:41

Yeah I've always had this. It's normal for me.

Mykittensmittens · 23/12/2022 22:52

It’s very normal - I’ve posted on here a lot about it - anyway…

I was having fertility issues some years ago and ended up under the care of a clinic whose consultant was really thorough.

I Ovulated from each side predictably and I could feel this. Left, then right etc. he said this was absolutely normal, though there is a bias to the right in most women, of which the cause is not understood (ie right, left, right, right, is also possible) and that all women have one dominant ovary. Right for me.

I have and have always had horrible mid cycle pain. He explained the pain is the ovary releasing the egg with a ‘cloud’ of fluid. The ovaries and Fallopian tubes are not water tight attached (yeah, I know!! ) so when the ovary releases an egg the fluid can leak into the abdominal cavity and irritate it. Hence left or right sided cramps, feeling bloated and weird for a day or two.

And yes that includes hip pain

Letitrainletitrainletitrain · 23/12/2022 22:55

Yep this was normal for me

Mirena coil stopped it from happening, depending on whether you want more kids or not etc

I only started having ovulation pain after baby. I didn't realise birth could compeltely change your periods. My period pains disappeared and now I have ovulation pain for a couple of days. Feels like period pains. Not hip pain for me

Snap apart from what the pain feels like

Every month when I am due on I wonder if this is the month the period pain will come back . It's fab without it

So I'm now on day 6 of this pain on and off so I'm starting to think it's can't be normal. It's absolutely when I'm ovulating but surely that can't be for 6 days? This has been the worst month yet.
