Chickenpox DD and relative with cancer (not in chemo)

My 7 year old has just been diagnosed with chickenpox, and her little brother will probably already have caught it from her. We're supposed to spend Christmas with a 60 year old relative who has recently been diagnosed with cancer after a kidney removal. The relative's condition is being monitored but is not undergoing chemotherapy or any other active treatment. They have had chicken pox in the past.

This feels like a stupid question, but is it safe for them to mix on Christmas Day if the chickenpox are still active? I can't find a definitive answer anywhere.

I think it’s the relative’s decision and not yours. They may need to ask their care team.

I agree, I've fully informed the relative, and have asked them to call their gp tomorrow for advice.

But they're very big on family and Christmas and I can see them wanting to take a risk even if they're advised against it. Which is why I'm trying to find out elsewhere as well.

If they have a lowered immune system then no I wouldn't take a child with active chicken pox to see them

You can get chickenpox more than once although it is rare. If they are on steroids then this is a no as well. Having said all that if they want you there that's their choice to take. There's no point in staying safe if you miss out on the things you love.

They're not on any immuno-suppressing medications or treatment - the diagnosis is recent and post-surgery recovery is going well. My complete confusion lies in not knowing whether they would still be considered immuno-suppressed.
