Itching uncontrollably

Hi. I have itched so badly I have used a hairbrush to scratch since I was a teen. It would go away after half an hour or so and it only happened after I bathed. As I got older it didn't happen as often but when it did it happened any time. For the last few days it has been happening every single day. It's awful and lasts for up to two hours with me having to use a hairbrush with sharp plastic bristles. It's sore for a while but is the only thing that helps . I have diprobase on prescription but that is only good after I bathed, if I put it on during an itching episode it makes no difference.

I have hyperlipidemia inherited and I'm on quite a lot of medication for my mental health etc and at my last blood test my lipid levels are very good but my liver enzymes are a bit high but both the chem pathology consultant said my psych say they are only slightly elevated and not dangerous. I am wondering if anyone has had itching to this extent and what helped you. Tia.

You need to see your GP. Severe itching all over can be a sign of a liver disorder. I didnt know this till I had gallstones. But it could be a number of causes which is why it needs to be investigated and sorted out.

It can be a sign of many things, some serious, some not so much. I get it when I have an oestrogen surge. Happens every month.

I'm always itchy, everywhere. Dh wants me to talk to GP, which I will.

I take antihistamine tablets daily and up until recently they have seemed to help. I know my liver enzymes are slightly raised but both my psychiatrist and chemical pathology consultant said that whilst it is slightly elevated it's not dangerously so. I am on quite a lot of medications so this is why.
