My 3 yo daughter has alopecia areata- a patch of hair loss on the back of her scalp currently about 6 x 8 cm. Other patched have regrown, but have taken a very long time. Can you suggest anything? Many thanks.

Its very difficult to judge wihtout seeing her (find a good naturopath or nutritionist for an assessment in your area e.g. from www.babydirectory.com) but in the meantime try increasing essential fatty acids by adding flax seed oil to her food (they hide well in yoghurts) and get a good fish oil such as eskimo kids by nutri. Try and get as many fresh raw veggies inside her too. If she doesn't like veggies there is a great supplement by Nature's Plus called KidsGreenz which taste like lemon coloured sweets. She needs to take these for at least 3 months. Does her GP have any suggestions?

no, have seen a dermatologist, who has given us some steroid lotion, as the least side -effect laden option (aside from doing nothing)- apparently steroids do shorten the attack...

have seen a paper from Aberdeen about some aromatherapy treatment, but it doesn't give any details of proportions of the oils used, and doesn't appear to have been repeated recently, so not sure how valid it was.
