Cracks side of mouth, lips dry and tight

I've been unwell with a sore throat / cough type bug for a couple of weeks and almost out of the blue the skin at the corners of my mouth has cracked and split on both sides, it's extremely sore. My lips look a bit swollen and feel dry and tight, they aren't chapped as such but around the edge of my lips on my face feels sandpaper. It's horrible and is so uncomfortable.

I've been covering it in lanolips.

Does anyone know what this is or how I can heal it up quickly?

Sounds like angular cheilitis to me. It's usually from a yeast infection when you're run down. Moisturising it will help but you might need to go to the doc for some cream.

Hiya, sounds painful! I had similar a while ago, doctor (it was back in the day when you could see them) said I was probably deficient in vitamin B. Worth taking a supplement for long term help?

Thank you @BobbinThreadbare123 and @Yddraigoldragon for your replies and advice. Do you think it's worth trying some canesten cream on it?

I have had cracks at corner my mouth and it cleared up when I dipped a cotton bud into mouthwash and dabbed it on.

I've had the same thing happen in the corners of my mouth since the cold snap weather. I've opted for lipbalm as first line treatment, before contacting doctor. It has healed 50%. I'm going to monitor it as this cold snap is ending tonight. I suspect the warmer weather will help. If not, then I will opt for yeast infection treatment.

Yes that's all I use

Yes you can use Canesten etc. If it doesn't go away it might be the bacterial type so then you need to go to the GP. When you get run down and your B12 is low, it allows these things to attack so I would look at taking some vitamins as well.
