Burning pain ovarian cyst

Hi
I recently found out I have a 6.4cmx5cm ovarian cyst. I'm feeling quite uncomfortable with it, a full burning sensation in abdomen and bloating. Generally feel tired and rubbish.
Doctor referred me for blood tests and says she will refer me back to gynaecology once we have them. had bloods last week, hoping I'll get the results tomorrow.

Background is for the last few years my periods were every 2 or 3 weeks, PMT much much worse(really low mood most of the time -cyclical just my cycle was so short that was almost all the time) which I put down to being perimenopausal. I paid to see a private gynaecologist in April who fitted a mirena and prescribed oestrogen, which has made me feel much much better mood wise. They also asked my old GP to refer me for a scan to rule out any "ovarian pathology". I didn't get the scan until November and didn't really expect them to find anything so it was a bit of a shock. My new GP also seemed to be quite keen I get bloods done once she'd seen it, but she might just be on the ball compared to Dr useless at my old practice. Is it usual for a doctor to phone you about something like this?

I changed GPs recently as my old one was so useless with menopause/women's health.

If you have had a cyst is this the same pain you experienced? Will they remove a cyst that size or will it go away on its own? I don't really have periods now as I have the mirena but I don't think the mirena stops ovulation necessarily?

I'm 43, have 2 children, if that's relevant.

Hi OP, do you have a "functional" cyst? Basically a normal one but bigger. I had one but the size of a grapefruit. I didn't have the burning sensation, just one agonising bout of pain! After which I found out about it. I am not sure if they remove them at the size yours is - they did mine as it was so big. I know sometimes they do apparently go away on their own. Sorry, I don't know anything about having a cyst with a Mirena.

I'm not sure if it is or not, I thought that was what the radiographer said and I went away feeling not particularly worried, although I realised later I hadn't asked her how big it was. The doctor then phoned me up to suggest blood tests etc but only talked about the size as far as I remember. I think I need to write down stuff I need to ask before I speak to her next, I keep getting all flustered and forgetting in the moment.

Once the bloodtests are back, you should be referred to gynae I would think. I guess is all is well with the bloods, you won't be urgent, but I don't really know. Sometimes normal cysts are left to see if they disappear, but again, I don't know what size they would normally leave. My GP didn't really know much about them I seem to recall! Hopefully you will know the next step soon.

I had a 10cm cyst which was removed during keyhole surgery, my Dr said 9-10cm is usually when they recommend taking them out, smaller and they tend to leave them and give you regular scans, I hope that helps!
