Try to get to A&E/wait for 111/wait for ambulance

My Mum is 66 and is having severe chest pain. She has had some tests done in the last few months but doesn't have results yet. I've just come over and chatting and she suddenly said she had a bad pain. I've called 999 and they've arranged an ambulance. The problem is that she's now saying she's weak and tired. I called 999 back and they said that they can't give advice and to call 111. I'm hold for the past 21 minutes to 111 but haven't spoken to anyone yet. I'm utterly torn as to whether to try to get us both a taxi to A&E and try to queue (she's lying down and extremely weak) or to wait for 111 advice or to wait on an ambulance? She has taken paracetamol. I honestly don't know what to do.

What difference will a private GP make? Get her to a&e in whatever way you can OP, taxi, neighbour or whatever. But do let 999 /111 know.

I recognise it may be futile to get a GP out, however, I find sometimes the older generations will listen to arguments from “someone in authority”, better than they might from their own (grown up) children. The GP might be able to persuade OP’s mum to get in the car.

My thinking being, it might be quicker to get a GP out than sit on the phone to 111 or waiting for an ambulance.

Ambulance arrived after 8. Mum is ok. At A&E. Bloods were taken and waiting on those and a doctor with time to look at them I suppose. Pain had eased by time paramedics arrived(!) We're lucky Mum is in a cubicle in A&E as I feel like I was panicking and there's nothing wrong. Obviously I'm glad there's not I'm sorry for wasting an anbulance as it is so busy.

It's good that she was seen. I hope she recovers quickly.

Don't feel bad OP, it could have easily gone the other way. The pains your Mum was feeling were real. I hope she's OK.

UseOfWeapons · 15/12/2022 06:45

OP, you did the right thing. With chest pain, it’s always best to call for help, rather than hang around. Hope your mum is okay.🤞🏻🙏🏿

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 15/12/2022 07:37

Better to be safe than sorry OP. There could be a reason there was pain, you never know. I hope she recovers quickly and is OK xx
