You poor thing. Try not to worry. Its better to be cautious about moles. It does however tend to be the ones that change, grow larger, itch etc which are the worrying ones. I had malignant melanoma twenty years ago and it was caught early on so I was very lucky. Take a photo if it and just notice any changes. The specialist will measure it and possibly remove it which doesn't hurt.

Thanks , this is quite small ish and like i said feels fine , iv looked on google and frightened the life out of myself only bad negative things come up and pictures that mine dont look like that , mine is slightly raised and half borwn half skin if this makes a differance i dont know ? still so worried got to wait now for an appt , im ok when busy but at night i think to much and feel very alone

I'm sure if they are itchy and are changing in colour and size it is more of a concern. I have had lots of moles removed and they have all been fine apart from that one.

yogimum · 01/02/2008 21:05

Are you fair skinned? Spent a lot of time in the sun? Is this the only mole on your body? Very unlikely its anything serious.

nogin · 01/02/2008 21:12

i m freckle on my face and arms ,like my mum and nan, have others on chest and legs not raised though ,these arrived after pregnancy slowly , to look at this one looks inocent enough ,but just thought id get checked out , and hopefully if im early enough will be ok . i always think of bad moles as black sore weeping moles that itch ect , still such a worry ,

What made you worry about this one? When do you see the specialist?

miarosemum · 01/02/2008 21:42

i have now had a total of 4 moles removed to be cautious as have a history of skin cancer in the family..does'nt hurt and very straightforward procedure, your doctor might suggest to remove it just to be safe. she will also maybe want to take photos of any other moles so she can compare them at a later date to see if they have grown.

miarosemum · 01/02/2008 21:46

also have alook at the website 'the mole clinic' very helpful and if you have the money they do very high tech (but obviously private not nhs!) scanning of your moles to see if they may cause a concern rather than have them removed straighaway.

nogin · 01/02/2008 22:00

Thankyou for advise , alarm bells only rung when i read an article in a magazine relating to flat moles/ freckles and things like that so then had a good look at mine , and mean a good look and saw this one , googled it and now thinking the worst , got appt with doc ,who said if i am really really worried to get them checked out with specialist, but she said up to me,she didnt seem oer worried ,ie lets get appt straight away . so as i am a huge worrier said id get it looked at , we have p health care so using that in hope to speed things along , and here i am terrified

((nogin)) know what its like to worry!

I've got a few like that now - didn't have when younger, they came with age/time/pregnancy. I've even had one like that that itched, which scared me, but its a perfectly normal ok thingy - can't remember the name, solar something or other. My GP is a skin specialist, so I'm lucky, I can just pop in and get them checked. I also had one I have had since childhood, which grew bigger/more sticky out and is part brown part skin coloured. Just had it removed because it rubbed against my bra strap (didn't use to, but does now and was itchy) and it was fine - a polyp-something-or-other. There are a ton of benign moley things we can have

Yours does sound very un-malignant, tbh, but if your GP isn't a skin specialist she is right to refer you (she probably knows you won't stop worrying if she tells you herself). Hugs and hope you get the reassurance soon.

Nogin - there is a clinic called the Mole clinic you could go to. They aren't cheap but very good. I'm Australian and to be honest I wasn't convinced of my UK GP's ability to spot a dodgy mole so felt better having someone very experienced check them out. You can go in to get a particular one checked out or a complete body check which is what i had done. Too many years of baking myself on Aussie beaches

thank you so much for advice , im climbing the walls here and as you may know at night alone infront of the computer as dh sleeps because of to much alcohol and dd still awake colouring , i feel some what alone .
I am a worrier but i still think its better to know and hope will be ok , my mole as i said is also small on my thigh and half skin colour and half brown sunds a bit like yours was, lets hope it s ok , have to wait to here from doc receptionist to get refered privately .

wish i had'nt gone to look on google only really terrifying things came up .

OP posts:
cinnamontam · 01/02/2008 22:31

And to echo Elibean if she isn't experienced in looking at moles then it's not suprising at all she has referred you to a specialist. I had a number of brand new ones appear while I was pregnant and they are all fine. I reckon you will be too hugs

cinnamontam · 01/02/2008 22:33

I have some very oddly shaped, coloured textured moles that are all fine and in fact some of them aren't even moles. Just some weirdo growths that are all bark and no bite

Drinking at night alone is not a good idea...so I might join you so you aren't alone

nogin · 01/02/2008 22:35

Thanks , hope so to , the only thing i console myself is , its not red , not got jagged edges or black, weeping or itchy i hope this is a good sign .

OP posts:
nogin · 01/02/2008 22:36

CoteDAzur · 01/02/2008 22:54

Even if not totally round, is it symmetrical?
Does it have any hair on it?
Has it always been the same size?

If so, you are absolutely fine

nogin · 01/02/2008 22:56

I tell you the other week i was on here worried about another problem i had , which has now gone , whats wrong with me , i never yous'ed to worry like i do before i had children , when i worked never had time to check things out or worry just didnt cross my mind ,now im obsessed with everything and always think the very worst about every thing i get

OP posts:
nogin · 01/02/2008 23:01

OP posts:
miarosemum · 02/02/2008 21:21

glad all was well..the mole clinic have had very good reviews. ask your dh to take some photos of your moles so you have something to compare them with.
