Throat infection

I saw my GP on Friday for a very sore throat that was causing me a lot of pain when swallowing and a lost voice. Other that looking very red and sore, my throat looked fine and she said it was most likely viral laryngitis. I was to rest, drink warm drinks and take painkillers but if I noticed white spots on my tonsils I was just to phone nhs24 over the weekend and get antibiotics prescribed.

I've been very mucousy which really aggravated my throat but it's mostly feeling better today, much less sore and my voice is mostly back. This morning I noticed some white spots on my tonsils although they aren't swollen, red spots on the roof of my mouth at the back and my tongue is a bit white and sort of furry feeling. Did was the GP suggested and called 111 who, after a 2.5 hour hold, told me someone from OOH would call me back today, potentially to see them/get antibiotics. That was just before 1pm and I'm still waiting.

I know they are so overworked and understaffed but I'm feeling frustrated now as I cannot go to OOH now even if they asked me to as I've got to get the kids to bed and I've no one to watch them as lots of family members are ill with various things. Just feel like I've lost my whole day to waiting around and feeling a bit anxious and rubbish. I also have a fair bit of health anxiety so I'm worried it's strep and I could have passed it to 6yo DS who still comes into our bed at night. Am I just as well phoning my own GP in the morning again and trying to get antibiotics from them now?

If they ring you back explain your situation that you can't now be seen as it's too late for you to get any childcare but still air your concerns and symptoms. And then I'm sure they'll advise the GP first thing tomorrow unless you need urgent medical attention over night.

If they don't ring you back - ring GP first thing to get an appt.

Get some difflam spray - it's an anaesthetic you can buy over the counter at a pharmacy.
