A podiatrist cut my callus with a surgical knife, is that really proper?

Hello

I went for a callus to a podiatrist and they cut it with a surgical knife (scarpel). It also bled a bit and they had to bandage it.

Is that really the proper way it should be done? I am worried and also I see a risk of infection.

I have never had calluses and never been to a podiatrist so would appreciate your thoughts!

Thanks!

This suggests cutting it away as an option.

Yes,it can be done with a scalpel

How did you think they were going to get rid of it?

FictionalCharacter · 09/12/2022 20:38

Yes, that’s a normal method and they’re trained to do it. Your podiatrist went too deep and cut you, which is unfortunate. I hope they apologised.

What were you expecting them to do?

yes, they went too deep which sounds amateurish, but a scalpel is completely normal

Yes, a scalpel is usual. Occasionally you might get a small cut as well, which is a bit ouchy-y but not as ouch-y as walking on hard skin all day.
