Right then all you fit and toned mumsnetters, give me some exercises (with dumbells) to do to get rid of flab on my upper arms!

Thats it, have splashed out on some 1.5kg dumbells in Sainsburys. I have started running and trying not to eat as much junk, but what exercises can I do with these dumbells specifically for my upper arms?

Please help a dumbell novice!

Holding dumbells in each hand hold arms out parallel to your shoulders with your knuckles facing down, like a 'crucifix' pose. Hold it for 1 minute!

For triceps, holding 1 or 2 dumbells, extend your arms right up above your head so your arms are next to your ears. Lower the dumbells behind your head by bending arms at the elbow. Your arms should not move from next to your ears, only the elbow to dumbell should move. Straighten and bend till it hurts!

Does any of that make sense?

turkey, sorry but those bells are a bit light to do much good!!

you cna also do dips which does not involve dumbells. also with dumbells you stand with one leg forward and the other back, then put your arms back slightly soft (not dead straight) and then usingthe dumbells at the elbows bring the dumbells forward in a slow and controlled fashion. the is aanother one but it is even harder to describe!! do you see what i mean so far?

Maidamess- thanks, much appreciated! I get what you mean about lowering dumbells behind my head, I would never have thought of that one so thank you.

Kittywise - Do you think so? I think they're quite heavy but there again I'm a real weakling in my arms (also its a step up from the two tins of beans I have been using!).

I don't want big muscles or anything, I just want to be more toned in my arms, so thought its better to do lots of reps of something lightish....(bearing in mind I might have got this wrong as am trying to draw on info stored in my brain from about 15 years ago).

They are a good start out weight. You'll be pumping 3kg each arm before you know it!

Turkey - yes you do. imust start doing toning exercises so when the baby is born just focus on the weight loss and flattenign the belly!! oh and i am only 4 weeks but planning ahead!
