I first noticed this rash on my lower leg whilst taking a bath a few hours ago. I shaved the day before but I've never had a reaction like this and it's only on that part of my leg. Two inches away from it is a small shaving cut which I don't think is infected. It's not hot to touch but has slight pain if I press on it. It still blanches slightly. I'm not sure what this is and any advice or ideas are greatly appreciated, thank you.

Psoriasis

No idea but I'd try sudacrem or vasaline and see how is it tomorrow

I think it looks like cellulitis, you’ll need antibiotics.

I ended up having a video consultation with an on call GP as it had started to hurt more and significantly darken in colour. He was concerned so sent me to a&e. 5 hours later the doctors couldn't figure it out (it was a nurse who looked at my leg, the doctor didn't bother) but told me It's nothing serious and it'll eventually go away. Feel like I've wasted my day and have gone unheard. I also got the usual question "are you on your period".

I know this is a completely random question but you didn't dry shave did you? X

WitchDancer · 09/12/2022 19:11

Have you used a hot water bottle?

vipersnest1 · 09/12/2022 19:19

It looks like the sort of shaving rash I get if I'm not careful, especially if I do it in a very hot bath.
I can also see a couple of cuts nearby. Maybe time for a new razor?

PestorPeston · 09/12/2022 19:24

Of course you got asked if you were on your period.

Have you never heard of Toxic Shock Syndrome?
Symptoms can include weird rashes.

Unless it was your choice to have a video consultation I think you should make a complaint about not being seen in person. Your rash needed to be examined!
Same thing for the doctor in A&E who didn't examine you.

So how is it now?

It's not psoriasis.

Still there, same shape but darker in colour. I think it's going away slowly. I don't have any idea what caused it though.

I hadn't at the time but I do love a good hot water bottle!

I get that sort of rash if I have overheated my skin, esp getting in the car with the blowers on at this time of year. I now can't have the ones on my legs at all

StrewthMarge · 10/12/2022 12:03

You didn't use a different shaving product? Blunt blade?

Is it still tender?

Are you worried?

Sameshitdifferentdayx · 10/12/2022 12:05

Very strange. Maybe the razor?! Xx

NippyWoowoo · 10/12/2022 12:07

No idea so im gonna take a stab in the dark with frostbite

janeeyreair · 10/12/2022 12:10

ive had something similar but on a much much smaller scale. Its happened a couple of times when ive been in a tropical country and scratched my skin in my sleep.

So the skin is slightly softened anyway by the climate and my scratching has broken the skin and caused bleeding just under the surface.

SuffolkUnicorn · 10/12/2022 12:15

I get this I put it down to dermatitis
