Strained muscle or something more worrying?

I've had that awful cough and sore throat that's been doing the rounds. I was bravely just getting on with it until I entered week 4 and it obviously went to my chest. Cough became an absolute hack, very productive, sore throat returned with a vengeance. I had pain on my left side under my ribs which I assumed was a strained muscle from all the coughing fits.

GP gave me antibiotics and within a few days my cough and throat were much better. A week on, I feel almost back to normal except for the pain under my ribs is getting worse.

It's still very bad on my left but now tracking round to the right. Coughing, sneezing, bending, picking up toddler all very painful. It hurts to lie down and roll over. I'm walking like an elderly person.

I'm still feeling fatigued (although toddler!) and I get a bit breathless if I try to walk quickly.

Does that sound like muscle strain from coughing, or could it still be connected to the chest infection and should I get it checked out?

I have the same issue. Had covid last week, and have had pain on my left side the whole time, low down under my ribs. Had I banged my side I would be thinking a broken rib, it's that sore.

I really do think it's just a muscle strain in my case as those muscles in between the ribs hurt like hell when inflamed.

You should get that checked out
I thought I "pulled a muscle" mucking out a stable some years ago, it turned out a few weeks later when I went to the GP about it because I was very breathless and got referred in for X-rays that I had a proper job collapsed lung/pneumothorax - 90% collapsed they said. They made me stay in hospital overnight for that one.
