He's been throwing up
God, not a whole family attack of d&v. Please God, no.....

You're not certain to get it. Can you banish him to a spare room (or shed)?
Be fanatical with your and the dcs hand hygiene.
Good luck

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/02/2008 09:49

Thank you.

I am fanatical about handwashing at the moment anyway, but dcs are 1 and 2 so not easily controlled!

We don't have a spare room atm, but maybe I could run away with the children in the manner of a 17th century Londoner escaping from the plague

Dd was throwing up for hours on Tuesday and we've all got away with it if that's any help.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/02/2008 09:51

Reassuring, thank you Tamum....

Dh, ds1, 2, 3and 4 all had it but I didn't get it so you might not.

Just make sure you wash your hands thoughly.

Unfitmother · 01/02/2008 09:52

2 of my staff have had dh's succumb but they haven't.

Othersideofthechannel · 01/02/2008 09:55

DS and I had it, DD and DH didn't.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/02/2008 12:11

He's lying in bed surrounded by a miasma. Think I might sleep on the sofa tonight actually

Elibean · 01/02/2008 14:05

Friend visited with it just starting last week, neither of her LOs caught it and amazingly (in spite of dire MN predictions ) neither did we.

Good luck, sofa sounds like a good idea!

Swedes · 01/02/2008 14:09

Kathy - My DP and 2 of my 4 children got it. DP has that virulent strain man norovirus which means he has been out of action for 4 or 5 days. Tinies were over it in 24 hours.
I am still catching up on the washing and ironing.
Hope the rest of you escape.

tigana · 01/02/2008 14:09

Ds had it. Miraculously dh and I didn't, despite being the cleaner-uppers and being vomited on frequently.

Wash those hands and close that mouth!

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/02/2008 14:37

LOL Swedes, we have some bird-flu masks somewhere which we got in a fit of paranoia (dd was tiny and dh works near a lake with a lot of waterfowl.)

He has been doing some amazingly loud man vomiting so it must be the man strain he's got.

Tigana, that's amazing. It does seem to be strangely selective - either it is possible to avoid through hygiene or else perhaps some people are immune!

tigana · 01/02/2008 14:38

must have been hygiene/luck in my case because generally if there is a bug going around I will be the one who gets it

IlanaK · 01/02/2008 14:40

My mother in law got it while we were all sharing a villa at centre parcs. On ly my youngest got a milk case of it and the rest of us (even my father in law who shared a bed and bathroom with her) did not get it. We were fastidious about handwashing and she stayed away from the rest of us (not my father in law). She had an extremely severe case and was deathly ill for days.

finknottle · 01/02/2008 14:44

lol Swedes, same thought. It's only dangerous and serious for

You and the children Can't Catch It

I had it, but DH and DS escaped it. I agree that obsessive hygiene is the key.

MrsPuddleduck · 01/02/2008 15:04

DS2 had this so bad he was in hospital and yet the rest of us got away without catching it.

On the leaflet we were given from the hospital it said the best way to avoid it was to constantly wash your hands.

I even dettoled our louge carpets

By way of public information - I was told that taking fluids little and often means 1 fl oz every hour! I was shocked as had been giving DS2 1fl oz every 20 mins or so!

Kathy, the antibac hand rub is ineffective against norovirus. Just meticulous washing needed.

Good luck

Kathyis6incheshigh · 01/02/2008 16:04

Thanks. I've been bleaching, but dh asked me to stop because the smell of bleach made him feel sick.

DD and DH had it at the beginning of December and I managed to get away with it - goodness knows how as we had DD in bed with us whilst she was at her sickest and I was doing the mopping up. I was far more particular hygiene-wise once DH got it though.

fishie · 01/02/2008 16:29

i had it and nobody else did. i was very clean though, even thorugh my agonies.

Kathyis6incheshigh · 04/02/2008 16:05

No-one else has got it yet! And dh is better, thank goodness. That was not the most fun weekend of my life
