Sinus infection

I have a sinus infection and it feels like it's dragging in forever! Definitely not covid I have been testing.

Got cold symptoms last Sunday and usually I recover after a few days or so, but this time got progressively worse and got the awful pain at the top of my nose/round my eyes along with headaches. Nose is fully blocked as well I can't breathe through it at all! Can't taste or smell a thing either.

I was using a nasal spray which was helping, but it says to only use for 7 days which I have done now so have to stop. Pregnant as well so limited with what else I can take!

Any tips on getting through it and how long it might last? Have tried steam from shower/cup which helps at the time but just blocks up as soon as I stop!

Do symptoms usually suddenly disappear or do they gradually ease over time?

I am currently suffering with the exact same thing. I’ve just put some Vicks in a hot bowl of water and it’s not only opened my airways but also eased the pain in my face. Id definitely try it.

There are great sinus relief videos on YouTube. I use them whenever my sinuses play up. Like pp I also do the vicks in hot water to sniff and sleep with a open window and the jar of vicks open on my bedside table.

Hope you feel better soon op

Saline nose rinses? If your stuffed up what about the calpol plug in? I had one long before my DS was born lol. If it's really bad ring your GP for a prescription, amoxicillin is safe whilst pregnant. Sometimes antibiotics are the only thing that gets rid of mine.

Netipot twice daily for relief. If you've stopped the nasal spray then you can take an oral decongestant instead. I'd also consider getting an infrared lamp which helps dry out the sinuses.

You need to flush your sinus out with saline solution, it won't work immediately I'm afraid but it makes a big difference if you do it every day. You can buy a little thing called a neti pot that looks like a teapot, but it's for pouring water into your nostril. You want to pour it in with your head on its side over the sink, keep the 'nostril of insertion' up and let the water flow through and drip out your other nostril. You won't enjoy it, but it should help.

I've used this method for years but was recently asked to write an article about it for work and did quite a bit of research. Saline rinsing was found to be much more effective than steam inhalation- I can try and dig out the studies if anyone is interested 😁

I've tried sinus rinsing twice today, but both times the water hasn't come out at all. Is that normal. My ears feel
A but blocked since the second go!
