Weird neurological symptoms

So I’ve been under neurology since a teen due to chronic migraines . I’m now 32 . Just had my second child and developed sudden onset double vision 2 weeks post partum and awful headache went to a and e who said it seemed like a refractive error and a worsening of my migraines due to hormones , referred to eye hospital who didn’t see nothing serious but thought it was related to childhood squint rearing it’s head causing eyes not to work together . Anyway also during this time developed strange burning pain throughout body , mainly legs arms face . Saw a private neuro . Mri organised for double vision but burning pain was fobbed off as something we see a lot but mostly is nothing . No further testing . Should I be satisfied with this or push for further answers ? Seems weird both symptoms seemed to start at same time and although im glad double vision is being investigated by mri and also I’ve arranged private referral to a neuro opthamologist , im concerned the strange fleeting burning pain all over continues yet no tests seem to of been mentioned ? From reading online it seems it’s a nerve issue but get feeling the doctor thinks it’s a non symptom probably caused by stress ( he’s not said this I just get the impression )

Any ideas what this could be and should I push further ?

I think the main thing is to get the MRI done as that may well help shed light on the cause of the pain as well as the double vision - they will pick up a very wide range of neurological issues which might be causing the burning pain. If you're not doing so already, keep a log of your symptoms (severity, location etc) as this can help. Good luck.

I know someone who had double vision after birth caused by pushing so hard they damaged eye muscles. She got given glasses to give her single vision and was told it would gradually get better which it did.

how is your blood pressure? Could it be post eclampsia?

Lkakpk · 27/11/2022 21:17

@UnaOfStormhold Thankyou I go for mri next week . It just unsettled me how dismissive he was of the burning sensations as when I researched it it seemed testing was neccasary to rule out nerve damage etc

@Coolyule blood pressure ok 128/80 last time I checked and my birth was c section but I have heard of various after birth eye issues

Have you had your B12 checked? Those symptoms sound like I have had with my B12 deficiency.

JackandVera · 28/11/2022 01:12

Have you considered that it might be a hemiplegic migraine due to your fluctuating hormone levels?

Did you have an epidural? Sounds awfully a lot like a few of the known rare side effects that happen when there has been a dural puncture:

“Serious and long-term complications of epidural injections are rare but can happen. Examples include:

chronic headache
diplopia or double vision
mild hearing loss
sinus thrombosis or a blood clot in the brain
subdural hematoma”

@Nat6999 I have actually . It was 300 odd which is normal in uk but my neurologist said it’s still borderline low and I was started on b12 tablets . I’m actually starting them again today to rule it out . What was your level ?

@JackandVera yes I’m just worried about Joe long it’s lasting . Do you have experience of these ?

OP posts:
Lkakpk · 28/11/2022 09:35

@Onnabugeisha I had a spinal block for c section and yes I worry it is related

You will need to push if it is because these side effects are from the anesthetist making a mistake- a dural puncture. Theyre going to want to rule out every other possibility before considering admitting fault.

Roselilly36 · 28/11/2022 09:41

Sorry you are experiencing these symptoms, MRI will be useful. I have MS so I experience similar symptoms, but I also get aura migraine and with that my hand also becomes very painful, it’s not related to MS though, but it is probably due to hormones as I am going through menopause. May be worth checking vitamin d levels. Good luck OP, I hope the MRI gives you some reassurance.

Yes I have two severe episodes of these close together when I was actually starting menopause. Never had migraines before that.In fact I was hospitalised with them as they were worried it was a TIA. Did every test in the book and the neurologist decided this was what it was. This was many years ago and nothing since then.

Lkakpk · 28/11/2022 10:48

@JackandVera how long did it last for you ? Migraines are awful

@Roselilly36 Thankyou ! How was your ms diagnosed ?

OP posts:
Roselilly36 · 28/11/2022 12:16

@Lkakpk by MRI, had head, cervical and whole spine scans. Two areas of inflammation were found in my spinal cord and a few white matter lesions on my brain. But please don’t worry my symptoms were different from yours.

Nat6999 · 28/11/2022 13:04

B12 tablets are no good, ideally your B12 should be over 500, the tablets will increase your score but your body can't use that kind of B12, look on Facebook for B12 groups where you will get more information. I self inject my B12.

I also have white lesions on my brain and they said it is even something you can be born with. I was also tested at the times for MS.

Roselilly36 · 28/11/2022 13:53

@JackandVera it’s so strange you have said that, when I got the dx of MS, I said to the Neuro, I could have been born with them, he said no evidence to prove either way, first mri I had ever had, but these areas of inflammation on the spinal cord were new. I was completely numb in some areas of my body. The white lesions, I had we’re indicative of MS so he said. I had a further attack 2 years later, totally different symptoms, visually related. A new lesion found in the peduncle (brain) that caused the symptoms. And paling to optic disc in one eye. 10 years ago now, been quite a journey.

JackandVera · 28/11/2022 14:26

Yes they can not say how long they have been there , can only compare with previous scans if any.
