dentist removed part of a healthy tooth to adjust occlusion after filling. Is it normal?

Hi,

I went to a dentist to fill one of the decaying teeth. When he was adjusting the occlusion after the filling, I noticed that a small part of a healthy tooth (the one pairing with the decaying tooth) was removed in order to improve the uneven bite. I'm not sure if it's the standard approach as my common sense told me it's not. Can anyone comment on this? Many thanks!

Yes it's a perfectly acceptable adjustment to make, especially if the opposing tooth has a plunger cusp. An uncorrected opposing plunger cusp can cause fracture /failure of the new restoration in the opposing tooth.

Yep totally normal.
