Pharmacy didn't give enough antibiotic. What do I do?

DD 2 has a chest infection. 5 days worth of liquid amoxicillin prescribed.

She is due 5 more doses (3x doses a day) but it's basically gone!? I have a medicine syringe given with the bottle and I'm measuring it perfectly each time. No spills or extra has had to be given. (Last time she had antibiotics a year ago was spitting lots out thankfully we had a large enough bottle that covered the extra spills) but this time I have managed to get each dose in to her just fine.

Do I have to contact my gp or go back to the pharmacy? She's only got another 1 1/2 days left. It definitely won't last there is a tiny bit left in the bottle. Still coughing don't want to cut the medication short.

You need to contact the GP. Pharmacies can't give out non prescribed medicines. I would contact 111 as they have a service for prescriptions

I would speak to the chemist that dispensed it tomorrow or ring the GP.

Apologies OP. My brain is going into holiday mode ( I'm going away) l keep thinking it's Saturday tomorrow!!

Please contact your GP.

How much was in the bottle, what's the daily dose and how long should she be taking it for? If the pharmacist dispensed the amount on the prescription, you need to go back to the GP

Presumably it was prescribed though ans the pharmacy just haven't given it!
I would speak to the pharmacy first, and then the GP. I once had a similar issue with the pharmacy and they did correct it

5mls x 3 times a day = 15mls
15mls for 5 days = 75mls

Or was it 10mls x3 a day =30ms
30mls for 5 days = 150mls

Each bottle is 100mls as standard. Usually if its amoxicillin they give 1 bottle of 100ml and tell you to come back just before the bottle ends to get the 2nd 100ml bottle. You would then have extra to disguard.

Maybe they forgot to tell you this or give you an owing ticket.

Did l say it wasn't? I mean if the OP needed more it would need to be prescribed through the doctor first.

It sounds like the pharmacy have made a mistake. If she needs more than the original course yes, but they haven't given her all of the original course

I would first try the pharmacy to see if they will rectify the mistake or give the second bottle as above

Yy as pp said one bottle is 100ml. So if one spoon three times a day one bottle would be enough.

Ring the Pharmacy in the morning they should be able to direct you on what you need to do. They may owe you a bottle or potentially the GP may not have prescribed the correct quantity.
