Anxiety about hospital / general aneasthetic / bedwetting

This year I have had a few health problems and been admitted to hospital a few times and have had to have 2 general aneasthetics / operations for gynea issues.

The night after both aneasthetics I have woken up in the middle of having a bed wetting accident.

The first time, due to the chance of me bleeding heavily after the procedure I had a huge pad on, which absorbed it all, so I didn't tell the nurses and sorted myself out in the toilet, and luckily didnt get the sheets wet.

The second time I was still only wearing my surgical gown so properly wet my bed and had to tell the nurse, who said not to worry and just changed my sheets. I dont think it was a problem but I was mortified.

I need to be admitted to hospital again and have another (unrelated) operation with a general aneasthetic. (not gynea). I'm getting worried about what if I have another accident.😳

Should I ask them to put a pad on me before I wake up (would they even do that?) just in case, (I'd find having that conversation VERY embarrassing) or do I just hope it doesnt happen again (maybe less likely as not gynea?) and if it does apologise to the nurse again. (I've had a couple of GA's many years ago and it didn't happen then)

Both times I have come round, eaten and drunk, been really thirsty having been nil by mouth for ages etc, gone into a deep sleep at night time and its happened a couple of hours after falling asleep in hospital.

Its not something that happens at home, and hasnt happened since i was a young child.

Go easy on yourself - your bodily functions in hospital are not going to offend anyone or make them think any less of you.
But I'm not saying you have to get over it. You just need to choose between either (a) making your needs known 'I'd prefer to wear an incontinence pad please as I don't like having accidents on waking from a GA' or (b) just waiting to see whether you wet yourself or not.
The nurses I had when I had a procedure recently & on previous visits were totally blase about any kind of bodily function. You know what - they're also human & they have seen it all.
