Mammogram, ultrasound and biopsy yesterday

Hi, I was referred to the breast clinic by my doctor because I have a moveable hard lump in my left breast close to my armpit. I was expecting it to just be cyst or fibroadenoma, but they discovered another lump nearer my nipple and in the report it says it's a discrete hypoechoic mass with hypervascularity and slight loss of definition in places. There is also calcification. It also says there is a satellite lying on the medial margin of the mass. She couldn't really give me any information either way, but she said that she can't say that it definitely is cancer, but because of my age -44- it is suspicious. She said that the fact the mass shows signs it could be either a fibroadenoma or a cancer means that she just couldn't give me an answer and I have to go in and get my results next Thursday. She marked that one as U4 and the one I can feel moving around as U3. The masses are also quite far apart from each other.

So, obviously I have done the thing I shouldn't do and googled everything. When I googled satellite in breast the most terrifying information came up.

Has anybody else had similar, particularly the satellite bit? I'm on HRT patches, but I removed it yesterday just in case.

God, this is so horrible.

You poor thing, you must be worried sick.

Easier said than done, but try not to panic ,and for the love of your sanity keep away from Dr Google!

I don't think you should mess with your hrt. Could you make an appointment with your gp to talk it over?

In the meantime, walks in the fresh air, wholesome delicious food, self-care and trying to keep things as normal as possible.

Do you have someone irl who can support you?

We're here for you.

The BC ladies in the cancer support thread are full of knowledge and may be able to offer some insight into the report. The thread is for those awaiting a possible diagnosis as well as those of us who have already been diagnosed, so feel free to post in there. This waiting period is utterly horrific, whatever you do, stay off google!

JustDanceAddict · 19/11/2022 12:17

Good luck. I went through screening a few months ago but thankfully it was benign calcification. My tip is to stay off Google and try and distract yourself as much as possible. I didn’t!

Don’t want to read & run….just hoping all goes well for you. Don’t believe all the scare stories about the NHS being bad…they really do give the best possible care. X

I'm sorry you are going through this OP. In April both I and a friend were in your position. Hers turned out to be benign but mine was cancer.

I was told by the BC nurse that the chances of mine being cancer were very low, but it turned out she was wrong. Then after an MRI we found out the tumour was bigger than previously thought BUT I had 6 months of hormone therapy which shrunk the tumour enabling me to have a lumpectomy and I am very happy with the outcome. Just waiting to start my radiotherapy and long term hormone therapy.

The waiting bit you are in now is probably the worst. No amount of Googling can or will prepare you should you get bad news especially because every breast cancer is different and there are so many different treatment options but if it is bad news, despite what everyone says about the NHS, they will swing into action with a treatment plan and look after you.

The ladies on the cancer support thread are indeed lovely but I found it quite daunting on there when I was waiting for my results/newly diagnosed so feel free to DM me if you want to.

Thank you for all your messages, I appreciate it. I might go and have a look at that cancer support thread. I'm trying to keep myself busy, but I also have an assignment to write for my degree but I just haven't been able to look at that yet. I haven't mentioned it to my kids, but my mum and dad know and I have told a couple of friends and my boss. This waiting thing is so weird. I have never experienced such a wide range of emotions in a very short space of time. I have no appetite either even though I can feel my stomach wants food! Roll on Thursday!

Hi @TrackerBar How did you get on today?

Hiya Twig,

They were fibroadenomas thankfully! It really is scary because these things don't all act in a uniform manner do they?

I am really thankful to the breast unit though. I was seen and got my tests and results in a week.

I'm sorry to hear that yours was cancer. It sounds like you have a great treatment plan in place though. 😊
