Droopy eye lid

I've had this a month now. Went to the optician this week. He said ptosis, maybe a sty, maybe muscle weakness from long term contact lens wear, maybe nerve damage, brain tumour !! I'm scared!!

I've got a Gp appointment next week and want to request an urgent appointment at the eye clinic.

So far, my vision isn't affected, it's clear of any discharge and isn't red or sticky. It does feel a bit hard or swollen but it's the way the lid droops which worries me. This eye looks smaller than the other.

Has anyone had experience of this with a positive outcome?

I’ve had ptosis in both eyes for years, the left one substantially worse than the right, and my sight has been affected for the last 3 and a half years. As I already have a neurological illness, I was referred to Neurology first, to rule out ocular myasthenia gravis, then referred to ophthalmology from there.

I had my left eyelid surgery in Oct 2019, which didn’t work and the follow up surgery was delayed because of the pandemic, but I had surgery on both eyelids in August this year. Surgery has been successful but I now have double vision (I suspect my eyes have forgotten how to work together!) I’m seeing the ophthalmologist again on Tuesday to discuss it.

You may need tests to rule out other causes but ptosis is common and an ophthalmologist will be able to diagnose it and refer you to oculoplastics if necessary.

I have one eye slightly smaller than the other too, and it droops - more so when I’m ill or tired. It also has astigmatism. Turns out I have Horners syndrome. I wax tested for Myasthenia Gravis but luckily it didn’t appear to be that. But I know how worrying it can be waiting for a diagnosis.

Do you have any double vision? Any other auto-immune conditions? Notice one side of your face sweats/goes red more than the other? There’s a condition called Harlequin which means half your face doesn’t go red when hot, which is linked. And I think it’s Adies that means one of your pupils doesn’t dilate the same way. All linked and while it’s annoying, not serious on their own. They’ll want to rule out any ‘obstruction’ to the nerves in the neck, and then probably just send you on your way to deal with it. The worst part for me is trying to get my winged eyeliner even on both eyes!!

Hope you get yours sorted Pushkin. 💐

The consultant I saw advised against surgery unless you absolutely need it due to obscured vision - and I’m glad he did because mine was at its worst at that point, but has come and gone over the past few years so that sometimes it’s not an issue at all. Surgery would have meant that it was still changing back and forth all the time, just in the other direction.

Oh crikey, well I've had nerve pain in my left arm for over a year now. They medics haven't taken it seriously at all. And now my left eye. No issues with face that I can see.

How has this even happened? It came out that blue 4 weeks ago.
