Dental treatment

My DD is at University 6 hours from home. She is worried about her gums and her wisdom teeth and had made an appointment with her dentist at home who is NHS. I have said for the cost of train fare she might as well see a private dentist to see what is wrong and then get any treatment done when back at home in holidays. Does anyone know if this works. Can you get an x-ray privately and ask your NHS dentist to plan treatment from that?

There are quite a few NHS dental walk in clinics. If she phones 111 in the morning they will direct her to the closest one. I'd try that first before paying private.

Where I work a private exam is at least minimum of £50 and that doesn't include X-rays. They won't just take an X-ray without an exam. X-rays privately at our practice can range from £20-£40 depending on the type of X-ray and they may choose to take bite wings plus a PA so could also be nearly £100 just for three X-rays.

Also yes they may do that but the dentist I know and have worked with would rather carry out the exam themselves.

A dentist, whether NHS or private, would have to actually examine your daughter in order to be able to treatment plan.
