Relentless growling/gurgling after double endoscopies?

I had a gastroscopy and a colonoscopy yesterday, under sedation. When I woke up I felt absolutely fine, just full of wind in the lower part (which was, er, being expelled in recovery and afterwards - I know they inflate the colon to see better!).

24 hours later I have wind rumbling around everywhere. In my stomach, up and down my sides, right through my intestine. I'm trying to eat easily digestible foods (white toast, plain biscuits etc), but instead of pushing the gas through and out it's all just grumbling around, making revolting surging noises. I'm not in any pain although they took about 8 biopsies.

If you've had the same, how long does it take for the errant wind to dissipate? Is there anything I can do to get it out of my stomach? The sounds are grossing me out 🤢

it will take 2 or 3 days for evryhting to start functioning normally again. Take some rennie deflatine.

Deflatine, I forgot about that stuff - do they even still make it?! I'll get DH to have a look on the way home tonight.

The consultant did say he went a distance into the small intestine, which might explain why I've got so much air higher up. Or it just travelled upwards...

I have no idea if they inflate your stomach during a gastroscopy, I suppose they might.

Yes they do inflate your stomach too. Deflatine still exists, it gets me through bouts of IBS.

Haven't tracked down any deflatine yet and whilst some of the air has passed, I've still got it rumbling around everywhere. It's been 48 hrs, why won't it get out of my stomach FFS? It's putting me off eating and making me feel queasy.

I would suggest you could try gentle walking, stretching, warm bath, hot water bottle, mint tea - these are all quite soothing things that might be helpful and unlikely to do any harm. Hope you get back to normal soon.

Pretty sure I saw deflatine in Asda the other day. But yes, moving around, peppermint or fennel tea, gentle heat, all those will help.

Thank you. I think the gurgling is lessening slightly, I have no pain at all and I have an appetite, its just the noise I find disturbing!

I'm doing my usual dog walking plus we have a puppy to run around after so I'm hoping that movement will expel it all eventually.
